Children’s Day Program

Details of Trips & Activities

·  Exploring Underwater Friends/Catch & Release at the Bay: (all groups) Children will arrive at the bay approximately 5 minutes away from the Winnetu. Here the children will enjoy hunting for sea shells, various crabs, seaweed, and other bay creatures. Multiple nets, buckets, and shovels will be provided.

Note: Children ages 3-6 are not allowed past mid-calf.

·  Fire Station Field Trip: The Yellow Starfish will travel to the Edgartown Fire Station, located approximately 2.5 miles down Katama Rd. The Edgartown Firemen will give a tour around the museum and vehicles, allowing the children to get an up close view!

·  Turtle Hunt: (all groups) Staff will walk the children to the turtle pond, located on the Winnetu front lawn. Not only will they be able to “hunt” for the turtles, but they will have a turtle race! Yes we have the children wipe hands with sanitizer after touching the turtles!

·  Wacky Wednesday: is based on a book by Dr. Seuss that you may be familiar with and just like the story we will continue with progressively wackier occurrences…a counselor with a missing shoe, upside down furniture or an act of nature gone wrong. Your child may participate with their own wackness or help keep track of what went wacky at Children’s Day Program. Older Group will do relays with a twist! Wacky Style.

·  *Scavenger Hunt : Children in the Blue Sharks & Green Sea Turtles get to travel into Edgartown by the VTA shuttle. Each staff member will take their groups on a scavenger hunt throughout the town. Clues will be provided and will lead groups to various places in Edgartown. The VTA shuttle will return to Mattakesett Activity center before pick-up. ($2.50 for VTA)

·  Pirate Adventure: The Red Lobsters will listen to a pirate story, create their very own pirate hats & eye patches, and hunt for treasure at our very own pirate ship playground!

·  Splish-Splash Extravaganza: Children in the Red Lobsters & Yellow Starfish will enjoy various water activities such as water balloon toss, slip-and-slide, and splashing around in the baby pool.

·  Sandcastles at the Beach: Children build sandcastles and are never permitted to go near the water!! We collect shells and read stories about the sea.

·  *Tie-Dye Day: (all groups) On this day, the children get to find their inner groovy-ness and create their very own tie-dye shirt! $10 fee (SHIRTS WILL BE PROVIDED!!!)

·  Fun at the Farm: Children will get to travel to the Farm Institute located across the street from the Mattakesett Activity center & learn about various types of farm animals & farming techniques.

·  Edgartown Library Field Trip: The yellow star fish will travel to the Edgartown Library located approximately 3 miles down Katama Road. Library staff will read a storybook to be followed up with conversation and craft.

*TRIPS & ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE FEES! ONLY TIE-DYE FEES MAY BE CHARGED TO ROOMS!!!
