Course Description:
Show Choir is an auditioned group that rehearses once a week for the entire school year. This group sings and dances to a medley of popular songs. It is recommended that students take a curricular class (Chorus or Concert Choir) in addition to their participation in this ensemble. The Show Choir is one of the musical groups at JFK that travels to compete against other schools across the nation. This past year, we received a superior rating in competition, earning “Best Overall Choir” with a perfect score of 100. This group is oriented specifically towards preparing for performance in a competitive setting.
Rehearsal Schedule/Attendance Policy
· Students are expected to be present and on time to each and every rehearsal.
· Absences will not be excused unless there is a medical emergency, a death in the family, or the student is absent from school that day.
· Tardiness is never excused.
· If a student is late to rehearsal, it will be considered half of an absence.
· After 1.5 absences (3 tardies/1 unexcused absence+1 tardy), the student will be put on probation. On the next infraction, the student will be removed from the Show Choir.
Please remember that Show Choir is a team effort! In order to be successful, every singer in the group is needed for every rehearsal and every performance! Your teammates are counting on you!

Performance Dates:
The following performances are mandatory for Show Choir members:
Wednesday, December 14, 2016 - JFK Winter Concert, 6:30pm at JFK
Thursday, May 11, 2016 - JFK Spring Vocal Concert, 6:30pm at JFK
These performances will require a dress rehearsal during the week of the concert. The dress rehearsals are mandatory – students who do not attend the dress rehearsals will not perform in the concert.
Please mark these dates on your calendar now. Any student that misses one of these mandatory performances may be removed from the group.
Other performances may be added - dates will be provided when the performances are confirmed with the event hosts. Any additional performances will not be mandatory, but attendance is strongly encouraged. Singing in a choir is a team effort. Everyone has a responsibility to the other members of the ensemble to participate in every performance.
Additionally, we urge all Show Choir members to attend our annual spring overnight trip. This year we will be going to Disney World (April 19-24). This trip is a major culminating event for the Show Choir. When members are unable to attend, it creates a difficult situation for the ensemble as we prepare for competition. We will be offering fundraisers all year in order to offset the cost of the trip. Students who are willing to put in a lot of work can even fundraise the entire cost of the trip! Please see Miss Scott as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns about your participation in the trip.
Performance Attire:
Show Choir members will be issued uniform attire for performances. It is expected that students will return all attire components at the end of the school year and in excellent condition. Students who lose or damage any aspect of their performance attire (including school-issued hangers, garment, and jewelry bags) will have a fine placed on their school account towards the purchase of a replacement. Please see the schedule of fines below.

Show Choir vests and dresses can be washed in the washing machine in warm water on a delicate setting in between performances (no special detergent necessary). PLEASE DO NOT HAVE VESTS OR DRESSES DRY CLEANED - IT WILL RUIN THE SEQUINS! Show Choir tuxedo shirts and tuxedo pants must be dry cleaned. Men - if you must have your pants hemmed, please request that the seamstress DO NOT CUT THE FABRIC at the bottom of the pants!
Additionally, you will be responsible for obtaining the following personal components of your performance attire:
