To improve communication, academic achievement, support teachers and administrators, andto serve as Board of Directors for the Smyrna Elementary Foundation.

Vision/Mission of Foundation

To raise funds and provide resources beyond PTA and CCSD for the benefit of all students.

  • Minutes from the December 9, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved.

  • See attached Foundation Accounting Summary as of February 10, 2015
  • Current balance: $94.47; outstanding obligations $335.04 to Sean Murphy for construction materials
  • $513 paid out of another school fund for boulders and gravel for wall footing
  1. Unfinished Business
  • Learning Garden Updates and Next Steps
  • We need another work day to continue to cut the lumber and assemble the remaining 5 plots. Sean will reach out to the volunteers who worked the last construction day in the next few weeks. Possibly February 28th.
  • Sean would like to have a large workday with adults and kids in March to haul dirt. We will ask as many as we can to bring wheel barrows, buckets, etc. March 21st is the target date for hauling and spreading dirt with a rain date of March 28th.
  • We need a staff member to take the lead on starting the programming and planning the planting. This person would serve as the liaison with Captain Planet.
  • Evening in the Garden event already planned by PTA – date in April?
  • Organize for March Foundation Campaign
  • Council work session to staple envelopes
  • Will send home the last Tuesday in February (K and 1 students will get envelopes with postcards of the garden)
  • We will schedule automated call outs once per week as a reminder. Brett will write the reminders and Ken and Sarvia will record it. The call outs will go out on Sundays.
  • Organize for Foundation Dance- Friday March 27th
  • Sarvia will send Melissa a template for a Save the Date flyer to be sent home asap
  • We will need committees (Melissa will send out Sign Up Genius for volunteers):
  • Decorations
  • Food – Sarvia
  • Publicity – Brett and Melissa (highlight cost and no drop offs)
  • Silent Auction/Raffles – Kim Olson, Sean Murphy
  • Ticket Sales – Sean Murphy ($3 per person, maximum $10 per family)
  • DJ/Music – Ken Lunsford, Justin Rader
  • Prizes for best 80s costumes for adults and students
  1. New Business
  • We will advertise all school events at meet and greet and ask for parent volunteers to sign up to help with each event (PTA and Foundation).
  • Sean suggested the idea of having a Smyrna community daddy-daughter dance at Taylor Brawner to benefit the foundations of the elementary schools that feed into Campbell Middle and Campbell High. Possibly sponsored by the Wave of Excellence and/or Smyrna Education Foundation.
  • We will need to add School Council members for the fall to replace Ken Lunsford and Sarvia Gaxiola, who will not be returning.
