Short term EVS Say hello to tolerance

In the light of current social events in topics such as migrations and refugees, the rights of homosexuals and growing poverty rate in all of Europe, we have detected a need to promote tolerance and intercultural dialogue among the younger generations. The attendees of the short term EVS project »Say Hello to Tolerance« will prepare a promotional campaign to promote tolerance, intercultural dialogue and EVS.

The project will include 16 volunteers between 18 and 30 years, from 8 different countries which are Estonia, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Romania, Turkey and Finland. During the project they will take part in various learning opportunities and activities, they will be encouraged and monitored, that after return to their local environments, they will have better chances of employment or self-employment. Through all the preparations and organisations of promotional activities, they will gain various skills that will enhance your chances of employment.

The goals of our project are to expand the recognisability of youth centres in Slovenia, international youth mobility projects and the Erasmus+ programme, to encourage tolerance and respect of human rights amongst young people and to empower knowledge, experience and reference of volunteers and others participating in this project.

Main activities

-Organization of promotional campaign on tolerance

-Promoting EVS as a way of self-development

-Visiting youth centres with hostels and high schools in Slovenia

-Organization and coordination of promotional events in youth centres, youth centres with hostels and high schools

-Organization of final event in Maribor

Work process

EVS volunteerswill spend 5 weeks in Slovenia, each week in different youth hostel. First week they will be introduced with the concept of youth work in Slovenia, Erasmus+: Youth in Action programme and the promotional tools used in the process. They will spend two days visiting different social groups, which are facing discrimination and are target of intolerance in everyday life (such as homosexuals, homeless, refugees, immigrants etc.).

Based on empirical experiences volunteers will create promotional activities, which will take place in different youth centres, high schools and other organization that work with youth as well volunteerswill organize different street actions and events in order to gain other target groups.

Second week they will start working as a team, they will create promotional campaign, using creative methods to reach wider public. During the promotional activities they will encourage youngsters to become actively involved in the campaign. Next weeks will follow in similar schedule in different towns in Slovenia.

The final event will be organized in Maribor, where they will show the results of the campaign work. The event will be organized as an open gallery or some sort ofstreet action (Museum Of Tolerance) in a city canter that will include all the promotional and artistic contributions from youngsters from Slovenia. After the event all contributions will be transformed into digital forma to create online exhibition.

The entire EVS group and its activities will be held in the English language, consequently the participants will gain competence of communicating in foreign language and communication skills.

Timeline

26.9.2016 arrival to Ljubljana

1st week: Ljubljana Getting to know each other, schedule presentation, the presentation of youth work, Youth Network MaMa, getting to know the organizations and the communicational tools, arrival training, team building, roles and groups defining, field work (to get in touch with different social groups that are facing discrimination through different workshops and presentations)

2nd – 5th week: Velenje, SlovenjGradec, Novo mesto, Brežice, Ajdovščina, Maribor: The preparation of activities, the planning of these activities, preparation of campaign and outdoor events, workshops for students and the general EVS recognisability increase. Last week you will organize the final event in city centre of Maribor – Museum of Tolerance and create an online exhibition.

Last day: Evaluation, All activities will be followed by evaluations on daily meetings on a regular basis.

Hundred percent presence is required at all activities, weekends will be free.

Money, travel costs, insurance

The volunteers will receives pocket money for 33 days. The amount of pocket money is fixed by the rules of European voluntary service as part of the Erasmus+ Programme. All travel cost will be covered.

The volunteers will receive money for food. Breakfast will be arranged in hostels, volunteers will organize lunch and dinner by themselves.

Volunteerswill be enrolled in the EVS insurance scheme. Every volunteer must hold a European Health Insurance Card.
