GEORGE E. SKOULAS

Dr. George E. Skoulas was born in Anogia of Crete - Greece. He studied in Canada at the University of Waterloo Ontario where he successfully completed three degrees: a B.A. in Economics, a B.A. in Political Science and M.A. in Political Science. As a scholar he continued for another degree, in graduate studies at York University pursuing Ph.D. in Sociology which was achieved with honors in 1991. His Dissertation was successfully defended in March 22 1991 entitled: “Modern State Forms and Class Practices in Nineteenth Century Europe”. Mr. Skoulas is an Associate Professor in Political Science at present, teaching political theory, political thought and democracy and political sociology in both undergraduate and graduate levels at the Department of International & European Studies, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki Greece. He has recently taught at the University of Crete at the Department of Sociology. Previously he had taught, at York University of Canada, in the Department of Sociology and in the Faculty of Education. He also taught at the University of Waterloo, Political Science and at the University of Wilfred Laurier, Sociology. He is the author of: “Social Classes and State”, Publications Papazisi, Athens, 1996, third edition, “Society and Political Theory: a Political Analysis of the Contemporary World”, University of Macedonia Press, Thessaloniki 2007 second edition. A forthcoming book: “Political Power & Civil Society in Modern Europe”, expected by The Macmillan Press Ltd in fall of 2009. He is a contributor to many international journals with sociological and political analyses about the contemporary world in his articles. He is a member of the Editorial Board and a Critic of five international journals. His main interests are the political ideas and the democratic theory in 19th and 20th centuries, the class power analyses with an emphasis on the forms of class relations with the state and the sociological and the critical theoretical research.
