HONORS

Donna Ussery (Technical Services), Lisa Waldrop (Recruiting), Shirley Nix (Cosmetology/Barbering Division Chair), and Sara Brenizer (Natural Sciences Division Chair), will be honored with the 2006 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Awards at the 25th Annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas in May.

Jill Hays (Coordinator for Instruction) has been nominated for the "Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, & Technology" at the 17th International Conference on College Teaching and Learning to be held April 10-14 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Jimmy Osmore (Instructional Curriculum Support Specialist) has been nominated for the national UCP "Life Without Limits Award" for 2006 by the United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama.

PRESENTATIONS

Deborah Bonner (Special Events Director), Jan Rogers (Counseling Center) and Lisa Waldrop (Recruiting) will conduct a workshop session on the Shelton State Community College Student Ambassador Program at the 25th Annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas in May.

Linda Grote (Associate Dean, Academic Services) and Jill Hayes (Coordinator for Instruction) will be presenters at the League for Innovation in Community Colleges "Innovations 2006" conference in Atlanta, March 19-22.

Their presentation will be on the Shelton State Community College Faculty Resource Center.

Dr. Bruce Bizzoco (Associate Dean, Student Support Services) was one of the guest instructors at the Forestry Awareness Week (FAWN) held in the Bankhead National Forest in the fall. Approximately 240 sixth graders were exposed to the lessons in biology, forest management, soils, wild life, water quality, tree identification, fire fighting and archaeology. Dr. Bizzoco assisted the forest archaeologist Ms. Jean Allen in setting up a "dig" and showed how an archaeological dig is conducted.

Chef Neil Ravenna (Director of Culinary Arts and Commercial Foods) was one of four Tuscaloosa chefs featured in the Winter/Spring 2006 edition of "Jubilation" magazine published by the Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa.
