SHELTER IN PLACE

NLES/LCMS 2015-2016

In the event of a chemical release, or hazardous spill,the following procedures will be followed:

  • Tad Mott/Phyllis Johnson/Ann Guill will use the intercom system to alert staff and students to SHELTER IN PLACE in the school gym and notify the middle school of SIP.
  • Elementary students will sit in morning spots. Preschool will sit in bleachers on the south end of the gym. Middle school students will sit in bleachers (begin filling bleachers on the north end (side closest to gym entrance).
  • Ann Guill/Barbara Crawford/Dee Wright:
  • Use a two-way radio to alert staff and students who are outside.
  • Lock front door.
  • Post Shelter-In-Place signs on the front door.
  • Bring bus radio to gym
  • Forward calls to concession phone: Feature, 4, 4062
  • Dee Wright/GAIL ANDERSON/Walter McIntosh/Kathy Bassett/Tad Mott will immediately go upstairs to the ventilation switch
  • Everyone will proceed to the gym.
  • All teachers bring Crisis Manuals and flashlight to gym and sit in designated spot.
  • Tad Mott/Sylvia Doyle/Barbara Crawford will gather teacher rolls, cafeteria roll, and student roll fromclassroom teachers and a LCMS designee (Terrin Hayes) to ensure all students are accounted for. Cafeteria Roll will be gathered. Tad Mott/Sylvia Doyle/Barbara Crawford will notify Lori Champion or Betty Williams that all students/staff from both schools are accounted for and will give the order to seal the front gym doors.
  • All other doors should be sealed at this point.
  • Tad Mott/Craig Goodwin/Terrin Hayesor principal designee shall check every door to ensure that a proper seal has been obtained. Seals shall be made on the face of the door, NOT on the blocks. Remember, a seal shall not have any openings.

3. Parent Contact: ANN GUILL (Answer phone and share information with parents.)

4. Media/Information Contact: Amy Ramage (Write statements for release to media, callers, etc.)

5. Television to GYM: Lori Champion/Betty Williams

*SHELTER IN PLACE KIT AND WET TOWELS: Shannon Denfip
*BACK GYM DOORS (by cafeteria): Rachel Wallace AND PHILLIP HARNED (GINA WILL WATCH PRESCHOOL)
*BACK GYM DOORS (by preschool room): LCMS: Brett Heppner LCMS: Alescia Wilson
*CONCESSION STAND DOOR (by preschool office): Travis Thompson and ANGIE BARNES
*JANITOR CLOSET: WALTER MCINTOSH, GAIL ANDERSONAND KATHY BASSETT
*PE CLOSET (FIRST) THEN FRONT GYM DOORS BY HALLWAY: BETTY WILLIAMS, LORI CHAMPION
DON’T TAPE FRONT GYMDOORS UNTIL CLEARANCE RECEIVED FROM TAD MOTT OR PRINCIPAL DESIGNEE

*STAFF WHO ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS NEEDED:
Instructional Assistants and Non-regular classroom certified staff

SHELTER IN PLACE KITS CONTAINING THE NECESSARY RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE PRESCHOOL OFFICE.

Teachers may want to prepare ahead of time a bag of activities to bring to the gym with them.
