Shelter Sector WG Coordinator

Ø  Mr.Anuradda Wijayakumara (NBRO) has been appointed as Technical Advisor to the Shelter Sector Working Group / government focal point.

Ø  Open invitation to all agencies for share their documents related to the shelter sector for uploading on the ShelterCluster.com website.

District Focal Point Update

·  World Vision briefed field level progress in Rathnapura district.

o  Implementation is ongoing in 4 DS divisions: affected people are scattered among camps and host families.

o  The repair kit contents are insufficient, in particular the number (6) of GI sheets are not sufficient to fully repair damaged houses.

Protection & Shelter

·  Briefing by the Protection Sector Working Group coordinator:

o  The working group faces difficulties in getting the correct displacement details from government counterparts.

o  A draft protection strategy document was developed, agencies are requested for their review and suggestions before finalizing.

o  Psychosocial support to children in camps is requested from the four district focal points.

o  UNDP is planning/working on women’s friendly spaces.

o  Livelihood support for women is envisaged.

o  Agencies need to be aware of the risks of child labour.

NBRO Drone assessment

·  Mr.Anuradda Wijayakumara presented NBRO’s drone assessment, which includes images and schemes of landslides, to determine the safety of affected locations.

·  NBRO developed a form to assess beneficiaries status and preferences.

·  37 sites had been affected by landslides.

·  The extent of damage to building structures determines whether a shelter is fully or partially damaged. If a structure is damaged for more than 40% it is considered fully damaged, while below 40% is considered partially damaged.

Strategy update

·  LEADS suggested to make minor changes in wording of the strategy document.

AOB

·  LEADS identified that there are protection issues in the Alapathara Camp, Rathnapura.

·  The shelter working group needs to consider the protection issues when implementing shelter activities.

·  In Rathnapura CBO’s are functioning well, and play a large role in coordination, while being able to support humanitarian agencies.

·  Women, children and protection of other vulnerable groups needs to be considered before implement any shelter plans.
