Dubuque: A True Renaissance City

I had the opportunity to spend two days with the CDS Board Members in Dubuque, Iowa as part of our fall face-to-face meeting over the past weekend. While we transacted a good share of business, we also took time to visit the hotel and conference facilities where our 2014 CDS Annual Meeting will take place. The 2014 Annual Meeting of the Community Development Society will focus on effective community development strategies, programs, and policies --- fostered by CD practitioners, academics, elected officials, development organizations, organized citizens and motivated individuals --- meant to inspire a Renaissance in communities around the world.Be it in the areas of economic development, health, education, local facilities/services, transportation, natural resources management or more, the Dubuque conference will provide an ideal setting for CDS members and guests to explore the renaissance of our communities -- rural and urban -- toward a better understanding of what creates and sustains them as places that both retain and draw residents seeking well-being.

2013 has been a fast-moving year full of many surprises and opportunities. I've learned a lot taking over the helm of Vanguard and I hope you are liking the changes. I want Vanguard to be your connection to the activities and events of the Community Development Society, as well as a way to stay abreast of the latest news and opportunities in our field.
