Dear Parents' Assembly Member,
Welcome to a special edition of our bulletin, sent on behalf of our colleagues in the Public Health Team.

Sheffield Doula Project - Volunteering Opportunity

Would you like to support a vulnerable mum through the last stages of pregnancy, during the birth and for six weeks postnatal?

If you have the time and passion we can offer all the training you need.

Our next cohort starts in September 2017. You will be offering emotional and practical support on infant feeding, mum’s birth plan, bag packing for hospital, guidance on different types of pain relief, birth positions, skin-to-skin, safe sleeping and more. Our locality workers will be on hand to offer you all the support you need during your training and when you are volunteering.

We have volunteer doulas from all walks of life and all ages too. You don’t need to have passed any exams or been in education recently. We can offer you free accreditation of Open College Network Level 2 or 3 but this is not an essential part of becoming a volunteer doula.

Would you like to be awarded Healthy Early Years Status, Director of Public Health Award by demonstrating best practice in giving children the best start in life to the families you work with?

By completing a Healthy Early Years toolkit with the support of our early years practitioners you will be rewarded with a Silver or Gold certificate for you to display in your setting.

The Healthy Early Years Award is completely free of charge to Sheffield’s early years settings. You will be able to use the Healthy Early Years Status, Director of Public Health Award logo to use in your promotional materials including flyers and social media.

We are holding a Start Well Sheffield celebration event on Tuesday 6 March 2018 at the Town Hall which will be attended by the Lord Mayor and early years specialists.

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Could you be a Volunteer Healthy Start Mentor?

HENRY is an award-winning charity that is passionate about babies and young children having a healthy start in life. That means helping the whole family make positive changes to their lifestyle and building healthier communities.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to spend an hour once a week, in conversation with parents of children aged 0-5. Volunteers use the 8-week 1-to-1 HENRY programme to help parents who are worried about their child’s weight and lifestyle.

No experience or qualifications are necessary, full training is given and all travel expenses are paid. Healthy Start Mentors have an interest in giving children the best start in life and are able to listen and empathise with parents in a non-judgemental way.
