Sheep producer tour to Victoria

Calling on keen, progressive and innovative sheep producers interested in a Victorian study tour.

Study tour opportunity to Victoria

Keen, progressive and innovative sheep producers are specially invited to be involved in a study tour to Victoria in August 2017 and are strongly encouraged to submit an application. You must ideally be a member of a grower group or AgConnectWA.

Participants will have the benefit of travelling with a number of members of the New on-farm technology pilot group (NOFTPG). The NOFTPG consists of sheep producers who have been working with the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) to evaluate labour-saving technology in their sheep enterprise. The tour will be limited to 20 participants plus two DAFWA staff.

This is a follow up tour to the successful sheep study tour to New South Wales in 2016. Feedback from participants reported that the value of networking was as much value as the tour itself.

Participants will be selected for their responses to questions in the application form based on:

  • growing and expanding their sheep enterprise
  • improving the efficiency of their business through technology
  • sharing their knowledge and experience with their industry peers when they return.

Timeline

Applications must be completed and submitted by 5pm Wednesday 5 July 2017

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 7 July 2017

Study tour will commence after lunch on Monday 7 August 2017

Study tour

The study tour will be held from 7–11 August 2017 and will include attendance at Sheepvention in Hamilton, visits to leading sheep producers who are using labour – saving technology and discussions with leading consultants and Department of Primary Industries staff in Victoria.

Participants are only required to pay for their own return flights to and from Melbourne. A bus will be arranged to commence the study tour, departing from Tullamarine airport in the afternoon on 7 August. The tour concludes after lunch on Friday 11 August.

DAFWA will drive all organisation and coordination as well as cover the costs of Sheepvention entry, meals, accommodation, bus travel and tour guides, with a total value well in excess of $1000 per person.
