Mr. Nakamura

The woman I talked with was very calm but had a power in her words.

I might be pressured by her:)

She will participate in two shops in Komaba Festival.

Mr. Takeuchi

Mr. Konno, of literature course 1/2 class 23, will be selling hot dogs for the Komaba Festival.

"We're gonna sell it at the price of 250 yen", he says. He quickly adds, "Isn't it expensive!", as if he feels guilty.

But there is always a reason to things. He explains that this high pricing is for his class to make the hot dogs look cheaper when they start sellingthem for 200 yen, later on in the Festival (when their sales start to get lower). This selling technique is, with no questioning unquestionably, effective. "In the May festival my class won first place in the food section for selling takoyaki!" he proudly exclaims.

Myths tell that members of literature classes are friendlier with each other than of science classes. His class proves this myth to be absolutely correct. "But," he says looking a bit worried, "my class hasn't been doing any preparations for the Komaba Festival, yet.... Tommorow[Thursday] we will prepare everything." His class may have lost their fighting spirit after their victory in the May Festival.

Mr. Konno, although his job was fairly mediocre during the May Festival—sprinkling aonori onto the takoyakis—is sure to make delicious hot dogs with his class members at the Komaba Festival. "Besides the hot dogs," he adds, "there is a girl from my class competing in the Miss Todai contest."

We can look forward to that, too.

Mr. Konno

"Our class isn't doing much preparation for the Komaba Festival," Mr.Takeuchi silently said and smiled.

His class, consisted of two girls and a little over thirty boys, is planning to sell frankfurt at the enthusiastic festival held once a year at the Todai komaba campus. Their shop, which was opened at a far margin of the Hongo campus in the May Festival, will be opened on one side of the Ichonamiki - the main artery of the Komaba campus.

Will his class succeed? "Well, I've never made one myself, but it should be good. It's not that expensive, you know," Mr.Takeuchi said.

So how much is it? "A hundred and fift... no wait, two hundr... I forgot," he replied and grinned.

The man wearing a check shirt sat on the orange chair. He said that he would set up two kinds of refreshment stands at the Komaba Festival. One would be that of his class and the other would be that of his club. His class would set up a shop of sesame dumpling. "At first," he said, "we were planning to present a drama. Actually, the name of my class is printed on the pamphlet of the festival as one of the classes that will show the drama. Unfortunately, however, the number of the actors was not enough and so we have to give up. Instead, we decided to sell sesame dumplings because our second foreign language is Chinese." He would also sell grilled chicken as a member of Komaba-Kodomo-Kai.As the activity of this club, the members visit many places with Komaba elementary schoolchildren twice a month on Sunday. "The other day, we went to Tatsumi-no-Mori park and played the ground curling. Have you ever heard the ground curling?" Saying this, his eyes were sparkling with animation like an innocent boy.

A man wearing glasses and a denim jacket is a member of golf club, and his club will sell oshiruko at Komaba festival. He said he would prepare for oshiruko. I asked him what's the connection between oshiruko and golf club in order to make him confused. But he answerd at once, "Well, maybe both of them are concerned with white balls." I was surprised at his immediate answer. Actually, golf is the sport where people shoot whit balls, and oshiruko is the food which has white dumplings in it. I thought he would have been making oshiruko for all day long of Komaba festival. It seems, however, he won't do so much. On Friday he will never make ohiruko, and just walk around Komaba campus with his friends. According to his answer, he will make oshiruko on Saturday. So I asked him whether he knows how to make oshiruko or not. "Maybe just put bean jam into hot water, and throw dumplings in it," he said. Well, I'm sure I'll never eat oshiruko made by him. On Saturday he is supposed to help during a day, and he and members of his club will hold a party on Sunday night. I wondered if they could pay for the party with the money they earned during Komaba festival. I hope a lot of people will come to his shop.

Though we'll have classes on Monday, he and members of another club will have another drinking party. He seems to like drinking so much!! I think some students are looking forward to drinking party more than Komaba festival itself, I'm sure of that.

I had an interview with a girl who plays viola in a chambre music circle.

She told me that she would play 7 pieces of music in the circle during the komaba festival.

When I asked her "When did you start to play viola?", she told me that she started to play viola when she was 14 years old.I guessed she belonged to a club of orchestra or something, but she said,"I just began for pleasure."

I was surprised. The reason I guessed she belonged to something like a club is,I had an image that viola is a kind of instrument that supports other strings, such as violin and cello, and few people choose playing viola as a hobby.

"Maybe you know that some people starts learning to play violin or cello from really early in the childhood. And when I decided to learn some kind of strings,I was sure that I would be a late beginner and thought I couldn't be such good player. But viola is a kind of minor string and I thought I could be a better player in viola. And what's more, viola is a rare kind of strings, so I decided to learn viola." she said.
