ETP320 Theory to Practice

Unit Purpose

This unit is the final professional teaching experience unit. Students will complete ten (10) week supervised placement that will involve programming, planning, teaching and assessing learning. This unit has the specific goal of providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate their preparedness to meet the requirements of professional standards for graduating teachers.

Unit Outcomes

1.  Construct learning goals and experiences that are informed by the prior knowledge, experiences and interests of learners.

2.  Devise units of work that include well developed learning outcomes and assessment procedures.

3.  Use assessment results to inform subsequent program planning, delivery and assessment.

4.  Communicate learning progress with learners, parents, caregivers and other relevant authorities.

5.  Reflect critically on, evaluate and improve their professional knowledge and practice.

Length of professional experience

ETP320 Theory to Practice incorporates 10 weeks of professional experience.

In-school assessment

Each professional experience unit has one or more in-school tasks. These tasks demonstrate the ability of the pre-service teacher to use academic learning in a professional experience environment. The tasks for this unit are:

Pre-service teachers are required to plan, teach and assess continuously for a minimum of 8 weeks. Full time teaching refers to teaching enough classes to give the pre-service teacher the experience of being a full time teacher.

Professional experience for the remaining weeks will include additional full time teaching where possible, team teaching, single and multiple lessons, planning and assessment of student work.
