Minute Monday 11th March 2013

1.  Welcome and Apologies

2.  Minutes (18 February 2013)and Matters Arising

Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting read by Cherif and approved by committee. Meeting was started by Cherif Merrouche later chair Kevin Kane joined the meeting. A brief appearance from Mrs Grant Head Teacher and news of her return to office was highly appreciated.

3.  Correspondence

No correspondence except a marketing magazine.

4.  Finance

Tom reported the status of funds received so far for stalls booking the Mela. So far £195 deposited to bank.

It was decided that £1 would be entry fee for adults, £0.50 would be entry ticket for Children and two years of age or under would be free.

5.  Shawlands Mela 2013

Current meeting is focused on Mela preparation. Tahir and Susan H. presented the details of stalls booking, 62 stalls are booked so far compared to 48 stalls last year. No more bookings to be taken for stalls. Tahir is going to send the final reminder for full payment; any stall which has not paid by the deadline will be cancelled.

John Donnelly has given the detailed planned layout of stalls, which was debated and a final plan agreed by all. Susan H and others presented the update on poster and flyers distribution. David Wylie will be M.C. /director for stage activities on Mela day, advertisement and other activities were discussed.

Shafique was made responsible for buying cleaning materials and crisps and drinks.

Susan L. has volunteered for number of responsibilities like Badges, direction posters etc. She is responsible for bouncy castle booking. Raffle tickets sale was agreed.

Tahir and Susan H. jointly responsible for stall booking and to liaise with Treasurer as required.

6.  Head Teacher’s update

Return of our Head Teacher

We are delighted that Ann has returned to work. We look forward to her leading us once again.

Staffing

Iain McNair was appointed as Acting Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care.

Jennifer Burns has been appointed to cover the maternity leave post in Geography and Lucy Bell has been appointed to cover the maternity leave in Biology. Both will take up post after our Spring Break. Temporary arrangements have been put in place.

Church service is on last day of term. This will be advertised at assemblies and in the newsletter.

Pupils will be texted re expectation of attendance in the last week.

Paris Trip 20-22nd Feb

Twenty nine pupils took part in this trip which was a wonderful educational experience for all.

Nine of our S3 pupils were filmed for the BBC news report. We await with interest to see the final production

S2 ICT

S2 classes prepared new images which are being displayed on the projector at the front of the school.

Procurator fiscal Public Speaking Competition

Two S1 pupils, Eve parsons and Pagan ferry McKenzie came a very close second. The girls were fantastic and are through to the next round in March.

Climate Challenge

The school hosted the Glasgow Schools Climate challenge on 28 February on how can we be more sustainable on our approach to food. Unfortunately we did not win!

Rugby

Our S1/2 team won 6 out of 6 games in the Emerging Schools Cup

Football

The S3,4 football team won 9-1 against King’s Park.

Glasgow schools’ cross country

Congratulations to:

Keir Carolan who came 4th in S3 boys out of a field of 100 plus runners and

Archie Breckenridge who came 7th in the senior competition.

Myrtle Breckenridge came 5th in the senior girls race and our one medal, a bronze, was won by Taylor Stuart in S1.

500 days to go

We were filmed as part of the 500 day countdown to the Commonwealth Games. We were chosen because of the launch event for the Tartan last year the link to U-tube is on the web.

Youth Olympics game bid 2018

On Wednesday 27th February we were visited by Lord Sebastian Coe, Sports minister Shona Robison and city council leader Gordon Matheson who all talked with pupils, staff and assembled members of the local and national press, sharing their vision for Glasgow’s bid.
