Conditions Of Entry

Who Can Apply?

The Shark Bay Art Awards are open to all Australian artists and youth over 16 years.

What Kind of Works?

The Shark Bay Arts Council welcomes the submission of themed work in three categories.

Open category: Two-dimensional work in any medium other than photography or digitally enhanced. Low relief art work in which materials protrude slightly from a flat background will also be eligible.

Youth category: Open to artists between 16 & 25 years as of 17th Sept 2016.

Recycled Art category: Create an artwork work made from no less than three differentrecyclable or organic materials. eg wood,plastic and rope

Artwork should be of manageable size and weight.

The Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded:

First prize is an acquisitive prize for the Shire of Shark Bay who kindly sponsors the Shark Bay Art Awards. The winning entry will become the property of The Shire of Shark Bay. If the winning entry is valued in excess of the prize amount, the artist will accept the prize amount only. No entry can be awarded more than one prize.

The Application

When and How to Apply

Entry forms must be received by the Shark Bay Arts Council care of PO Box 16, Denham 6537 by 5pm, Friday 2nd September 2016. A maximum of two pieces of art work per category from each artist will be accepted. All entries must be the original work of the artist, must have been completed within the last 12 months. Work will not be accepted for the exhibition unless an entry form has been submitted.

Entry Fee

A non-refundable entry fee of $10 per piece is required upon entry.This is to be

paid in cash, cheque or direct deposit to the Shark Bay Arts Council. Please ensure

the Artist’s name is referenced on the deposit.

The Selection

The winner will be announced and the prize awarded at the exhibition opening at

Rose Freycinet Gallery on Friday 17th September, 2016. The People’s Choice

Award will be collated and announced after the exhibition has closed. The judges

decision is final, they reserve the right not to award a prize in any category and no

correspondence will be entered into regarding the decision.

The Exhibition

All works will be viewed by the judge however, not all works may be exhibited. The Shark Bay Arts Council reserves the right to select works for exhibition.

Works selected for the exhibition will be on display at the Rose Freycinet Gallery from Saturday 17 September until Friday 14 October 2016 inclusive. Works may not be removed from the exhibition until the end of the advertised exhibition period.

The Shark Bay Arts Council reserves the right to reproduce the entries in subsequent publications by the Shark Bay Arts Council in relation to the Shark Bay Art Awards.

The Acceptance

Dimensions of Artwork

The maximum size for two dimensional art work is 1.5 m x.1.5m including frame. Measurements for three dimensional works (Recycled Art) should be manageable in size and weight. Sculpture pieces must be able to be lifted by two people.

All artwork should relate to the theme: Discovery-journey of new beginnings.

Format for Installation

Art works must be ready to be hung; with hanging cord/wire attached and fitted with ‘D’ rings for hanging on the back of the work (approx. ¼ of the work from the top) and preferably less than 5 kg in weight for ease of hanging.

Each art work must have complete details, including the title of the work, artist’s

name and address clearly marked on the back.

Art work will not be exhibited if it is not presented in the correct format.

Sale of Art Works

All works exhibited shall be for sale and a 25% commission will apply to any sales from the exhibition. The sale price indicated in the entry form shall apply and shall remain fixed for the duration of the exhibition.

The net sale proceeds will be paid to the Artist within thirty-five (35) days of sale, provided settlement has been made in accordance with the conditions of sale. If GST is applicable it remains the responsibility of the artist.

Responsibility of the Artist

Freight is the responsibility of the entrant and art works will not be accepted unless they are delivered and returned free of all freight and other charges.

A completed delivery note must accompany each art work detailing the Artist's name, title of the work and freight details.

The Shire of Shark Bay and the Shark Bay Arts Council will exercise all due care in exhibiting and handling art work, however works shall at all times remain at the risk of the entrant. It is recommended artists insure their work against loss or damage including during transit periods.

Delivery of Artworks

All work must be delivered no later than 5 pm on Friday 9thSeptember 2016 to:

Rose Freycinet Gallery, Knights Terrace, Denham 6537 or Shark Bay Arts Council,PO Box 16, Denham 6537. If consigning art work via post or carrier, prepaid return freight vouchers must be included with the artwork at the time of receipt. If the art work is sold, the prepaid voucher will be returned to the Artist. No payment whatsoever will be made for freight or other charges incurred in the delivery or return of entries. This is the responsibility of the artist. No late entries will be accepted.

Collection of Art Works

All works not sold can be collected from the Rose Freycinet Gallery from Monday 17 October between the hours of 9am and 5pm. If arrangements have been made for return by pre-paid freight vouchers, works will be returned in the original packing. It is the responsibility of the Artist to ensure the packing material is sufficient for the return transportation of the work.

Failure to Remove Art Works

Where arrangements have not been made for collection or return freight by the due date, the Shark Bay Arts Council reserves the right to sell or otherwise dispose of the work on the expiration of thirty (30) days from the last exhibition day.
