Overall Purpose of the Role

The marketing team promotes the work that Raleigh does and the volunteer opportunities available. Our marketing aims to drive awareness of the role that young people can play in sustainable development through embarking on a volunteering programme. We do this through a variety of channels and activities: online, offline and in person. We strive to generate engaging content for marketing campaigns that will ensure our application targets are met, allowing Raleigh to continue to deliver its programmes and affect change in poorer communities and vulnerable environments around the world.The marketing team sits within the Recruitment, Delivery and Communications Team at Raleigh.

The role of the Marketing & Engagement Officer will be to design and implement marketing activities and initiatives to attract volunteer managers, team leaders and specialist volunteers to Raleigh’s programmes. These volunteers are crucial to the safe and effective delivery of our programmes. Currently the role will be marketing Raleigh’s expedition programme, International Citizen Service (ICS) and ICS Entrepreneur. The post holder will also be involved with additional marketing and writing opportunities for other Raleigh audiences.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Working with the International Resources team to define target audiences for the various roles (volunteer managers & team leaders), gather insights and understand challenges and opportunities
  • Developing a marketing and recruitment plan to attract volunteer managers and team leaders for both generalist and specialist roles
  • Implementing, monitoring and analysing the effectiveness of the plan
  • Building relationships with corporate, professional bodies, outdoor centres and other industry specialists to encourage volunteer referrals
  • Developing marketing materials and copy that adhere to Raleigh’s objectives and brand guidelines
  • Writing copy and updating information for the Raleigh website, blog and third party organisation websites
  • Regular engagement with contacts via e-newsletters to encourage applications
  • Working with the Content Officer to generate quality case studies for leaderships roles
  • Attending and presenting at Raleigh open events, external talks and fairs
  • Using social media channels to effectively communicate with target audiences and network and promote relevant discussions
  • Contributing to regular reviews and reporting against marketing activity

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Implementing marketing activities for other Raleigh audiences
  • Contributing to the development of internal systems and processes
  • Sharing best practice, ideas, learnings and successes within the team and organisation-wide to maximise the effectiveness of marketing activities

Person Specification (Skills and Experience)

Essential

  • Experience in developing marketing plans based on consumer and industry insight
  • Experience of relationship marketing at a professional level
  • Ability to analyse marketing activity and report on its effectiveness
  • Confident with digital marketing techniques, including use of social media
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills targeted at a variety of audiences
  • Confident in delivering presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Confident and enthusiastic selling manner face-to-face and over the phone
  • Familiarity with Google analytics
  • Understanding of CRM databases
  • IT literacy: good level of competency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Track record in multi-tasking and structuring and prioritising workload to meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with an enthusiastic, positive and flexible attitude
  • Evidence of ability to work as part of a team

The holidayentitlement is 25 working days per year, plus bank holidays. Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 - 5.00, although weekend and evening working are required for Raleigh duty management, phone calls and delivery. It is expected that international travel will be required.
