SFMA Employee of the Year - Guidelines

Below are a list of statements that may be used as a guide to selecting Employee of the Year nominees. When submitting the write-up include objective measurements where this employee exceeded expectations.

  1. Inspired others to perform at a higher level than they believed possible.
  2. Volunteered for a challenging assignments and expanded scope of a contribution.
  3. Actively sought partnerships; built strong relationships with people at all levels and across units. Contributed to building a positive team spirit.
  4. Very innovative; suggested and implemented a significant contribution to improve operations, utilizing best practices.
  5. Safety/Heroism: Demonstrated outstanding judgment, courage, or ability in an emergency, meritorious action or service to prevent injury, loss of life, or prevent damage to or loss of property.
  6. Promotion of safety: Innovative idea created by employee to improve safety.
  7. Leadership: One specific example of leadership quality of a willingness to be a leader, shows the ability to guide and direct others, or moves others to action.
  8. Internal/External Customer: A unique experience where a customer was positively affected by employee’s actions, attitude, or demeanor.
  9. Service Standard: Delivers exceptional service in person, on the telephone and via email by presenting a welcoming/friendly environment, treating individuals with respect, answering questions to help resolve problems, and following up to ensure satisfaction.
  10. Dependability: Can be trusted to carry our any responsibility given; can be relied on to keep important matters in confidence; can be relied on to recognize valuable equipment and/or documents and handle them accordingly. Comes to work every day and arrives on time.
  11. Initiative and Resourcefulness: Takes the initiative to do and/or learn things without being told; makes an honest effort to solve a problem or answer a question before going elsewhere; uses creative abilities and talents to suggest unique or original ideas; seeks out alternative that may conserve costs. Respond quickly, takes independent action, and goes above and beyond.
  12. Job Knowledge: Knows all aspects and responsibilities of position; has a good basic knowledge of the business and how his/her position and department interact with the whole. Accomplishes tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how small; shows concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checks processes and tasks; is watchful over a period of time. Follows procedures, ensures high-quality output, and takes action.
  13. Leadership Qualities: Shows a willingness to be a leader; shows the ability to guide and direct others. Moves others to action.
  14. Soundness of Judgment: Uses good judgment; weighs all sides before making a decision; seeks the opinions of others; makes practical and realistic decisions. Assumes accountability for own actions; is willing to admit to an error; not pass the buck; is flexible when the situation demands, i.e., working overtime, covering another’s duties, etc.
  15. Stewardship: Manages resources efficiently to create and preserve value for our customers. Values safety and makes it a key priority. Takes care of the environment and provides company leadership in sustainability.
  16. Passion for Excellence: Prides self on providing outstanding customer care and in making each impression a positive one. Values quality, service, and professionalism. Is a risk-taker who takes initiative and values innovation and continuous improvement.
  17. Organizational Integrity: Operates with the best interests of the company in mind. Follows the rules. Values honesty, ethics, and transparency. Takes ownership and personal responsibility for our actions. Creates trust with our customers and each other as an organization.
  18. Team: Respects others, comes to work each day with a positive attitude, and creates a favorable work environment. Values the strength that a diverse team creates. Values open and honest communication. Celebrates our successes and has fun!
