Setting up a profile in Outlook 2013

Before you can begin to use Outlook in our classroom, you will need to create an Outlook profile. This is a one-time activity. Here are the instructions that will guide you through the process.

Preparation Step:
Be sure to have your Student ID Number handy. You will need it as you go through this process.

  1. Click on the Windows Start button, then select the Control Panel/Mail menu option.

2. In the Mail Setup window, if you see the following dialogbox, click on Show Profiles…

/ Note: Some of you might not see this dialogbox appear. If you don’t, just proceed on to the next step.
  1. In the Mail window, click on Add…

  1. A New Profile window comes up where you will enter your Profile Name. A common convention is to use the first character of your first name and full last name as shown in the diagram. And then click OK.
  1. In the Add Account window, you will need to enter your email address in the format shown below, and then your password in the two boxes below. Then click Next.

Remember:
Your email address is: first letter of your first name followed by your full example:

Your password is: last 6 digits of your student-id number followed by –ex
example: 123456-ex


Note: After the above screen, faculty (not students) may be prompted when they create accounts with a login screen. If so, enter your full email address and password.

6. Success is almost yours, click Finish.

7. Now you are taken back to the Mail window. Where it says, When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile: click to select Prompt for a profile to be used. Click Apply and click OK.

You’re Done! Now try to login to Outlook by following the login instructions provided by the instructor.
