Session plan C

Duration: Full day

This session plan has been designed for a five hour session that can be used for a full day.

Once downloaded, you can edit this document to suit your meeting agenda and the activities you prefer to run to gather feedback on the four questions.

Session plan – five hour consultation event

We’ve designed a programme around the four questions to feedback. This session could be used to both consult on the next strategic plan and motivate volunteers/young people about the future of Scouting.

Important tip: Read the proposed plan before the meeting!

To make the meeting as effective as possible, it’s important that those attending the meeting have had the opportunity to read the proposed strategic plan as preparation before they attend. It would also be useful to encourage people to read the consultation and research briefings if they would like more context.

Aim of the session

That every volunteer, Network member and Explorer in the District has the opportunity to discuss the proposed strategic plan and feedback their views.

Outcomes of the session

·  Attendees feedback whether they think the proposed strategy identifies the right priorities for young people, volunteers and wider society and to what extent they support the plan.

·  Attendees will discuss what they think will be most exciting for Scouting to deliver and indicate their top three initiatives.

·  Attendees will discuss what they think is most important to deliver first and indicate which top three initiatives should be prioritised.

·  Attendees will discuss their views on the proposed strategic plan which could include feedback that supports the proposals or that raises a concern/challenge or something that needs to be considered as part of the plan’s delivery.

Other things to consider when organising a Summit17 event

·  Consider a wider variety of people who could present, lead a session or sit on a panel discussion – aim to get different views that will inspire and challenge the group

·  Get young people involved in the event and leading from the front or facilitating discussion

·  You could add in a session on the perception of Scouting and use some of the research from the general public and decision makers which can be found on scouts.org.uk/beyond2018

·  You could add in a session to discuss what opportunities the proposed strategic plan would have for you locally in your District/County/Area and what would need to be considered to effectively achieve it.

Feedback

The aim is that through your meeting, you facilitate discussion around each of the four questions using the activities we have suggested. These activities will help you identify and prioritise the main points the volunteers/young people would like to feedback to Headquarters. You can then feedback using the online survey.
