- Parent Institute at the Illinois School for the Deaf. June 13-18,

2010. It's free! In fact to offset the cost of travel and missed work, a scholarship of $50 a day for each day of attendance is provided. This incredible opportunity offers parents and their children, age birth to 5 with bilateral moderate to severe/profound hearing loss, to spend 5 days completely free of charge with experts in the field of deafness from all over the state. The professionals' job is to provide information help make decisions along the journey of raising a child with a hearing loss. The DHH child will receive audiological, psychological, speech - language, vision, and educational evaluations free of charge! Room and board is also included. ~Summer Camps:

- Art Camp: The Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) is offering an Arts

camp for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The camp's goal is to provide the participants the opportunity to improve communication and socialization skills while learning dance, art, technology and ASL

- RIT/NTID summer camp: TechGirlz.August 1-7, 2010. A week-long summer

camp for girls with hearing loss entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in Fall 2010 who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math.

~ Children's Memorial Auditory-Verbal Summer Programs: Auditory-Verbal

Therapy & Implant Symposium.August 2-5 and the 2010 Auditory-Verbal Therapy Practicum. August 6, 9-13, 2010. The Children's Memorial AVT Summer Program is modeled after several successful programs designed to provide an in depth experience including a mentored therapy experience. It begins with a four-day symposium with lectures covering the Development of an Auditory Function/Auditory-Verbal Techniques Module from the AVT, Inc Standardized Curriculum, as well as lesson-planning strategies. Clinical case studies of implanted children will also be provided including the use of music therapy. The symposium is followed by a six-day mentored practicum during which participants will have a hands-on therapy experience with coaching from senior therapists, as well as lectures on special topics. Participation in the symposium is required to participate in the practicum. For further information & an application visit:

These materials were shared at the 2010 Illinois Teachers of Hearing Impaired (ITHI) conference in Springfield Illinois. Job opportunity for parents: Guide by Your Side is looking to hire more Parent Guides. www.ilhandsandvoices.org/GBYS Guide By Your Side (GBYS) focuses on providing support and resources for Illinois families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. GBYS works one on one with families matching a trained Parent Guide with each family. The Parent Guide meets with the family to discuss concerns, needs and the personal journey of raising a child with a hearing loss. Are you interested in learning more about the role of the Parent Guide and how to apply? GBYS will be hosting an online informational webinar on April 19th at 8pm.
