THIS AGREEMENT entered into on the 1st Day of July 2018, by and between the California Council for the Social Studies, hereinafter known as “CCSS” and Al Rocca, hereinafter known as the “contractor”.

The Social Studies Review (SSR) Editor shall work with and be operationally responsible to the CCSS Publications Committee. The SSR Editor is ultimately responsible to the CCSS Executive Committee and Executive Director, providing contract oversight.

SERVICES: The contractor agrees to perform services for CCSS throughJune 30, 2019as follows:

  • Develop a list of current SSR subscribers for print and electronic copies and communicate with them on distribution policies and concerns
  • Work on developing contact market to potential subscribers
  • Work with the Publications Committee to select a theme for each issue of the journal
  • Produce one (1) SSR, to be completed by March 1, 2019
  • Operate the publication process within the provisions, bylaws and policies of CCSS
  • Maintain cost ofissue withinconfirmed budget allocationunless changes approved by Executive Committee
  • Assume responsibility for all content, formatting and style approaches used in the publication process
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of guest editors and the peer review process
  • Coordinate the SSR columns, contact prospective column editors and keep them informed of deadlines and formatting requirements
  • Read and edit all submitted theme articles, coordinating formatting and style input into the typesetting
  • Select and format all photographs, maps and special charts or graphics, and advertisements as critical components of the publication or when used as fillers
  • Provide the CCSS Executive Director with monthly updates on the status and progress of the SSR
  • Provide final print copy in electronic form, both InDesign (or other platform currently used) and a PDF to printer selected by contractor and approved by CCSS Executive Director; copy to CCSS Executive Director

PAYMENT: The contractor will be paid $500 for work with distributors, and $1800 for editing work on the Social Studies Review, for a total sum of $2300after completion and receipt of final copy.

ATTENDANCE/TRAVEL: The contractor is not required to attend the CCSS Board of Directors Meetings, but is encouraged to do so when advisable, with possible travel reimbursements to be arranged and agreed upon with the CCSS Executive Committee.

NON-ASSIGNABILITY: Contractor shall not assign this agreement or any portion thereof to a third party without the prior written consent of the President of CCSS, and any attempted assignment without such prior written consent in violation of the section automatically shall terminate this agreement.
