Services for Schools Intranet: tips on using the site
Q What is the Services for Schools Intranet?
It is the place where you can find all the key information, communication, resources and guidance from Calderdale’s Services for Schools.
Q What is “What’s New”?
“What’s New” has links to items published on the Services for Schools Intranet, as they are added, rather than waiting up to a week to be notified. A summary of new items is also emailed each Friday during term time. Contact Michael Holgate if you want to be added or removed from this mailing list.
Q I can only see 10 items
To see all items, click on What’s New on either the top or right hand menu.
Q Do I need to look every day?
The site can be used as often as you like and when it is convenient for you. You don’t need to wait until Wednesday for key information as you did with the school packet. Using the What’s New link shows all items added in date order.
Q How can I print out a list of the items?
Go to What’s New and right click anywhere on the page (avoid any links though). Select Print Preview – this lets you decide how many pages you need to print. Click on the Print icon in the top left corner, select the Pages to enter which pages you want to print, and click on Print.
Q I want to download all the items from this week
Not all items are links to documents, some are links to web pages.
All documents are saved in the relevant service area, so that they are in context and can be found later. If you want to download a document, right click the document link, either in What’s New or on the page the document is saved on, and select ‘Save target as’.
Q Why do some items say “login required”?
The Services for Schools front page is available to anyone, as are the front pages for all services. These pages do not require a login to view.
However, much of the website is only available to schools and academies, either all schools and academies, or only those who have purchased a particular service – you will need to login to see this information.
Q How can I get a log-in for the Schools Intranet?
If you require access to the restricted areas of this site, your headteacher will need to request this via a form. The form, plus further information, can be found at Schools Intranet and Downloads Access.
Q What is Downloads?
Downloads is a separate secure area for services to share data with schools, eg Free School Meals data is provided by Benefits. Access to this area is restricted to a limited number of people within each school as approved by the school’s headteacher - see Schools Intranet and Downloads Access.
Q I get asked for a password whenever I open Microsoft Office documents

Contacts and Services
Q Where can I find information and contact details for a service?
Each service section will have the relevant contacts for that service. You can find a service using either the A-Z of Services, or the Search function. These are always available in the header at the top of the window.
There is also a list of contacts in Schools List and Term Dates. This list is updated every term.
Q Where is the list of school contacts?
The quickest way to find school details is by using Search for Schools on the Calderdale website. A list of school contacts in Excel can also be found in Schools List and Term Dates.
Q Our school details are wrong, who do I contact?
We always try to keep the details up to date, but if your school’s or academy’s details have changed, please contact .
Other features
I A-Z of Services and Search
The easy way to find services - these are always available in the header. A-Z of Services can be found below the picture in the top left corner. The link for Search is in the top right corner.
I Noticeboard: Save it, Share it, Swap it, Sell it
Do you have surplus equipment, furniture, or consumables that other schools or academies may be able to use? Advertise them on the Save it, Share it, Swap it, Sell it board. Also use this board if you need something that other schools may have.
I Noticeboard: Events, competitions and good causes
Keep an eye on the Events, competitions and good causes board to see what is coming up – theatre shows, charity events, conferences, sports, launches, festivals, etc. If your school or academy has something to advertise, then you can add it here.
I Noticeboard: School discussion forum
The School discussion forum is for you start or take part in discussions, both with other schools and academies, and with us. Share and discuss ideas, or ask for help.
I Noticeboard: Calendar
A monthly view of all the forthcoming events can be found in the Calendar. All items include a brief description and links to further details where relevant.
I Training
The Training page brings together all the learning and development opportunities advertised on the Services for Schools website. There are links to training provided by both the Council and external parties, and the News highlights the latest courses to be advertised.
