Description of Service / Oakdene provides rehabilitative and recovery focused inpatient care for people with longer term and enduring mental health problems. This often involves those who have had severe and traumatic experiences that have may resulted in a protracted inpatient admission and/or those who have not responded to traditional treatment options.We provide holistic care through the use of its multidisciplinary team with the aim of improving the person’s quality of life and promoting their social inclusion.
Referrals normally taken from within the secondary care mental health service. Age criteria is 18-64 years (aged 16-18, only as an identified part of the patients’ care plan). If over 65 years of age, the person must be an existing patient of secondary care Adult Mental Health services in Portsmouth
The general length of stay is extremely variable and dependent upon the level of needs the patient has and their willingness to engage in their treatment plans. On average, patients are admitted for between 3-9 months. As the aim is to move the patient into the community, Oakdene has excellent links with local support groups, partnership organisations and voluntary sector groups.
Other areas of interest and related experience available / Oakdene also operates an outreach service for patients post discharge to support their transfer from hospital to home before ultimate discharge to the Community Mental Health Teams or GP. Voice Hearers and Interaction group.
