REFUGEE UPDATE

It was with great joy and thanksgiving that we welcomed the Tomas to their new home last week. They have passed on their many thanks to all of us who helped to bring them here. This week they met with the Association of Newcomers to get registered for ESL classes, school, health and other government services. They also opened up a bank account, organized their house, met with an Arabic Christian group for worship in their own language, went out for walks in their new home, etc, etc. The main needs right now are for two bicycle helmets for the 11 and 6 year old boys and second hand carpentry and plumbing tools.

WILMA & THE DOIRON FAMILY

DON DOIRON

We were all saddened by the sudden passing of our brother Don Doiron. Even in his death, Don’s influence continues. He was all about excellence in whatever he did. Don was passionate about the sound system at Central, about music and about having the best when it was time for our piano to be replaced. He dedicated time and energy researching what would be best, made arrangements to rent one for a month, picked it up at Long and McQuaid, and set it up at the church. Next he ordered just the right one, returned the rented one, picked it up and set up the new one. Now that all sounds easy, but he and Murray Campbell spend hours doing what can be said in a sentence.

A concert was held to fundraise for the cost, Don did the sound. Now it is our turn to honour Don by contributing in his memory. We are very pleased and thankful that Wilma’s sister, Lucille Hanscome was the first to do just that. Lucille sent $200.00 to go toward the piano, as well she sent an additional $ 200.00 to help out with the reception held after Don’s funeral. Lucille lives in Campbell River BC and was unable to attend. We pray a blessing on Lucille for her generous gift which is so appreciated by all who loved Don. We offer sincere thanks on behalf of the Central Christian Church family.

THANK YOU

Thank you to the members of our congregation who generously donated their time and resources in the past few weeks. Your awesome generosity in hosting the refugee lunch, Don’s funeral reception and Lillian’s celebration are greatly appreciated. This truly shows God’s love in our community. Thank you.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
