DISCUSSION

SUMMER SCHOOL REPORTS

Mr. Peden gave a brief report on the Elementary and Secondary Summer School programs. Information from the elementary program showed improvement in student's achievement and indicated all students excelled in their reading comprehension.

There were 177 students (filling 276 slots) enrolled in the high school program and students from six other schools in the area attended. Three students completed the credits needed to graduation and there were two failures in the session.

MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

Al Anderson, Interim Director of Maintenance, said the last three months have been challenging. Twelve custodians were hired replacing retirees. Transportation is going very well. He thanked Judy Wilson, Administrative Assistant, publicly for her help these past months. The temporary and seasonal employees helped make everything run smoothly.

He also thanked Bill Shaw and Marilyn West for having the busses ready for the first day of school.

President Gawlik thanked Al and said we needed someone in this department with leadership skills and experience in the district.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT - Mr. Peden said the first day of school is always exciting. There are still concerns with transportation issues and we are working on these. He asked Davidson parents to look for other ways around Trenton Road for dropping students off for school. Traffic at Anderson is heavy because of the four way stops on Leroy. He encouraged parents to look into car-pooling.

The planning for our Strategic Plan will be discussed in the Work Session. We continue to focus on goals and the deficit reduction plan. Our Strategic Plan will guide us for the next few years.

It was a good start to the school year and Mr. Peden reminded everyone to have patience as we are still moving students and staff.
