VACANCY NOTIFICATION –Visa Officers
The Immigration section of the Australian High Commission Dhaka is seeking applications for several positions: Visa Administration Officer (LES 2); Visa Officer (LES 3) and Senior Visa Officer (LES 4).
The Visa Administration Officer (LES 2) undertakes a range of administrative tasks to support the processing of visa applications, including coordinating correspondence, supporting accounts and HR processes, data entry, and client service.
The Visa Officer (LES 3) assesses visa applications according to Australian Government legislation, including to verify documentation, conduct interviews, and undertakes a range of administrative activities.
The Senior Visa Officer (LES 4) assesses visa applications according to Australian Government legislation, including to verify documentation, conduct interviews, manage caseloads, consider complex cases, and undertake a range of administrative activities.
These jobs require excellent client service skills, exceptional attention to detail, and an ability to assess information analytically. Candidates must be able to work effectively and collegiately with others to achieve common goals.
Salary ranges start at BDT 36,066 for LES 2, BDT 47,300 for LES 3, and BDT 72,961 for LES 4. In exceptional circumstances, a higher starting salary, or additional allowances may be payable to the successful applicant.
A merit based selection process will be undertaken to fill these current and expected vacancies. An order of merit will be established from this process. The selection criteria and duty statements for the vacancy are attached. Applicants should provide:

SELECTION CRITERIA
· Sound ability to make recommendations, decisions and provide advice on visa applications in accordance with Australian Government legislation and policy. Capacity to absorb and interpret information about Australia’s immigration legislation, policy and procedures.
· High-level written and oral communication skills, including writing records of decisions, ability to communicate effectively with an appreciation of cross-cultural issues.
· Ability to quickly learn about and use computers, departmental computer systems and other technology.
· Initiative, judgment, flexibility and the ability to prioritise responsibilities and work independently in a high-pressure, unpredictable environment
· Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a small team, to respond effectively to challenges and to work as a member of a multicultural work team.
DUTY STATEMENT
Visa Administration Officer – LES 2
· Respond to routine client enquiries and refer to more complex queries to senior colleagues
· Maintain a strong focus on providing high quality client service
· As required, record clear case notes to provide a clear history of actions takes and/or advice given
· Prepare routine correspondence including acknowledgement and decision letters in relation to visa applications and answer general enquiries about immigration matters
· Receive and register applications for Australian visas and citizenship by descent
· Assist the Office Manager in a range of administrative tasks including: maintain adequate supplies of stationery and consumables; ensure prompt payment of accounts and daily receipt reconciliation; assist with asset management; archiving; despatch and receipt of mail, and general administration
· Assist the Visa Teams with a wide range of visa processing and document handling duties including, maintaining and updating office records and ensuring timely flow of inward and outward correspondence, faxes to and from action officers
· Provide support to combat visa fraud, misrepresentation and general non-compliance with visa conditions
DUTY STATEMENT
Visa Officer – LES 3
· Apply a good understanding of relevant migration legislation and policies to assess and make fair, reasonable and lawful decisions on a routine applications of varying degrees of complexity requiring the exercise of sound judgement and reasoning within defined parameters, client service standards, and in line with established procedures and protocols
· Assess visa applications and supporting documents to ensure compliance with legislation and policy. Conduct interviews in relation to applications for entry into Australia.
· Undertake verification checks of supporting documents, including telephone checks, letters and emails, as well as assisting with site visits as required. Based on these assessments and checks, make recommendations to senior staff to enable them to make high quality decisions
· Respond to client enquiries, including by telephone, email, fax, letter and in person, relating to visa requirements. When enquiries relate to specific visa applications, provide clear status reports. Maintain a strong focus on providing high quality client service
· Record information in departmental systems, applications and files to facilitate visa processing and to establish clear, accurate and comprehensive records of all actions taken in relation to visa applications
· Follow escalation procedures to ensure that, when necessary, urgent, complex or potentially media-attracting enquiries and applications are brought to the attention of A-based staff
· Provide support to combat visa fraud, misrepresentation and general non-compliance with visa conditions
· Receive and register applications for Australian visas and citizenship by descent.
· Undertake a broad range of administrative duties as required
DUTY STATEMENTS
Senior Visa Officer – LES 4
· Apply a good understanding of relevant migration legislation and policies to assess and make fair, reasonable and lawful decisions on a case load of applications of varying degrees of complexity requiring the exercise of sound judgement and reasoning within defined parameters, client service standards, and in line with established procedures and protocols
· Undertake thorough investigations and integrity checks in relation to more complex visa applications, including conducting client interviews and undertaking site visits in accordance with departmental policy
· Conduct research and policy interpretation to manage discrepancies and to provide sound advice to senior level decision makers on more complex cases as required
· Record case notes to provide a clear and accurate history of actions taken and/or advice given and prepare correspondence
· Maintain and monitor data in the various information management systems and analyse trends to improve the detection of visa fraud and to minimise visa non-compliance
· Work effectively with A-based and other teams to promote office cohesion and deliver whole of office outcomes
· Provide support to combat visa fraud, misrepresentation and general non-compliance with visa conditions
· Liaise with other DIBP offices overseas and in Australia, and other stakeholders in order to provide a high standard of service to clients
· Respond to more complex public inquiries on all temporary entry, visitor and general migration matters
· Contribute to section work plans and operational objectives, supporting the management of resources as required and initiating work practice improvements as necessary
Other Eligibility Requirements
· Excellent written and spoken English
· LES 3 and LES 4 applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree as a minimum qualification
· Selected applicants must be required to undergo a medical check and provide a police clearance prior to appointment
