SENIOR “TO DO” LIST

1. Mrs. Owens will register you using state vouchers for the FREE October 4 Senior ACT Retake!!

2. Participate in Community Service activities-looks GREAT on applications and makes you feel GREAT J

3. Sign up for the Tennessee Promise, a last dollar scholarship, which will pay for either an Associate’s Degree at a TN community college and some private institutions or a certificate/diploma program at a TCAT. www.tnpromise.gov Deadline: NOVEMBER 1

4. Research careers and take interest survey at www.planningyourdreams.org, www.collegeforTN.org, www.actstudent.org if you don’t already know what you want to do/be when you grow up.

5. Get an FSA ID to prepare for filing your 2018-19 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You and a parent both need FSA IDs. www.fsaid.ed.gov Deadline: ASAP! (2107-18 FAFSA, too for Early Grads)

6. Visit college(s)—you get 2 FREE days. Get a “College Visit Form” from School Counseling Center BEFORE you go or it will count as an absence. Parent/Guardian MUST go with you. If not going to college, you can use these for visits with military recruiters or employers.

7. Apply for admission (ONLINE preferred for most colleges/technical schools) BEFORE Halloween.

8. Request that the School Counseling Center send a transcript to the college/technical school you applied.

9. Research and APPLY ONLINE for SCHOLARSHIPS offered at your college/technical school. KNOW and MEET your college’s deadlines. Some are as early as September!!

10. Register with www.fastweb.com for FREE to search for independent and national scholarships.

11. Read Counseling Center Newsletters and/or scrolling announcements for other scholarship opportunities.

12. Attend with parent-FINANCIAL AID NIGHT on September 27 at 5:00pm.

13. After OCTOBER 1, you may complete and submit your online 2018-19 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

FAFSA Deadline for TN Promise: JANUARY 17

14. Attend with parent-FAFSA Frenzy WORKSHOP for help with the 2018-19 FAFSA on October 19 from 8-3.

15. Attend with parent-COLLEGE NIGHT on October 24 from 6:30-8:00pm.

16. Apply for local scholarships around late February. MORE INFORMATION AT THAT TIME.

17. If you receive notification that you have received a scholarship from a school to which you’ve applied, send a letter to either accept or decline it.

18. To qualify for Lottery money (HOPE), you must have 21 composite ACT score OR a FINAL unweighted 3.0 GPA, be accepted at an approved TN college, and have submitted a completed FAFSA application OR If you plan to attend a TCAT (such as the one at Hartsville or Livingston), you AUTOMATICALLY qualify for Lottery money (WILDER-NAIFEH TECHNICAL SKILLS GRANT) by applying to the school AND submitting a completed FAFSA. If you are a TN Scholar, you will also receive more scholarship money by attending a TCAT.
