Senior Final Paper

Format: APA format for in-text citations, font #12, Times New Roman and double spacing with one-inch margins. No abstract required. Don’t use headings. Seek to write a paper with good transitions and excellent flow. Excellent papers would most likely be between 13-15 pages (15 pages is the absolute maximum;excluding bibliography). Pagination is required. A great resource for source citation can be found at

Objective: In this culminating paper, you will be reflecting upon your undergraduate education experience and integrating these experiences into a senior final paper. Come up with a creative title for this work. It is appropriate to write this paper in the first person (i.e. I believe….It has affected me in these ways….) Please do not use second person “you” in this formal paper. This final paper will be a part of your permanent file, on record in the Kinesiology office. Make this your best culminating work!

Required inclusions, in this order:

(1)Reflect on the mission statement you crafted in Foundations. How have you done? Now write a new mission statement relevant to this next step in your life. To do this, reflect on personal life aims and goals. This is a personal statement, not a professional mission statement.

(2)You have chosen to attend a liberal arts college. Describe the process of becoming a "liberally" educated person. Discuss how the liberal arts/GE courses have changed you. Give examples of classes, professors and readingsOUTSIDE of your major that have impacted your life.[CM1]

(3)Please discuss your overall growth in general as an undergraduate: additional classes (including classes in our major if significant), instructors, personal and professional role models, readings that have been significant (both devotional and scholarly), and experiences during your college years. After describing these, what has played the most significant role in your growth? In what ways do you need to grow?[CM2]

(4)Discuss your growing perspective concerning character, social justice and personal wellness. This is REQUIRED. Approx. 1 page for each topic. Use supportive literature in your statements. References from authoritative sources should be included in each of these areas. If you choose to use the Bible as a resource, you need to use other sources as well in each section. Note: Please do not use Covey as one of your sources for this section[CM3].

(5)Professional aspirations.

a. Begin with a discussion regarding the concept of vocation. How does a vocation differ from a career? Where are you in the process of discovering your vocation? Cite multiple sources here to support your assertions, including Sittser.

b.Identify your specific area of professional interest (i.e. physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant, teaching, athletic training, medicine, coaching…). Why have you chosen this possible direction? Discuss three professional objectives (prioritized). Include a description of your "ideal" professional working situation. This can be an “image” you have formulated.

c.From your point of view, how does being a Christian make someone "different" as they function within your profession of choice.[CM4]

(6) Conclusion: reflect on the journey of writing this paper and its value as you conclude your academic career at Westmont College.

(7) “References” (APA) page with sources used in paper. A minimum of 10 sources must be used.

Finally, submit two copies on the day the paper is due. One will go in your permanent file and should have an appropriate cover page. The second copy does not need to include a cover page. In addition, you must e-mail an electronic version of your paper received by 7:00 PM on the evening the paper is due. Unless you tell your instructor otherwise, the department has permission to use your paper anonymously for the purposes of data collection and/or to share with our department and college.
