Job purpose
Develop, manage and carry out enterprise activities and other projects to achieve client requirements, focusing on but not restricted to the technical fields of vehicle Noise, Vibration and Hashrness (NVH)and active control.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time
Develop, manage and carry out specific enterprise activities and other projects to achieve client requirements, providing technical and administrative support and managing project finances e.g. consulting, testing, experimental, modelling, or evaluation activities or other specific, specialist services (e.g. applied research, service provision) for clients and customers external to the University. / 50 %
Design solutions to meet client needs, including e.g. pricing and other practical considerations, or formulating and developing new testing and experimental processes, new software etc. / 20 %
Build relationships and develop new links with industrial partners in enterprise areas such as consultancy, applied research, service provision, student engagement, technical recruitment, and development of educational offerings to match client or stakeholder needs. / 5 %
Contribute to income generation, e.g. through developing and winning enterprise projects. / 10 %
Attend and participate in national committees and working groups. / 15%
Manage and coordinate a programme of enterprise engagement across a wider Academic Unit or Faculty span.
Monitor and ensure effective management of assets and budgets allocated as part of the role.
Contribute to relationship management with external organisations.
Contribute to business planning of Enterprise activities e.g. within a team, Enterprise Unit or major facility.
Participate in appropriate University-wide projects or working groups.
Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.

Special Requirements
Out of hours working is expected from time to time.
Some out of office working at customer premises or on field tests.
Competing private consultancy work is not permitted.
Able to attend national and international conferences to present results.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge and experience / PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in acoustics, dynamics, mechanics or related discipline.
Experience of noise and vibration problem solving in the automotive or similar industries, achieving targets within design and cost constraints.
Growing and consistent national reputation in vehicle Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH).
Experience of measuring noise and vibration.
Understanding of the mechanisms of noise generation, transmission and control.
Skills in numerical and analytical models to problems in engineering acoustics. / PhD in vehicleNoise, Vibration and Harshness(NVH) and/or active noise control.
Excellent technical abilities in modelling methods for vibration and acoustics.
Excellent skills in acoustic and vibration testing.
Excellent skills in mechanical design.
Membership of relevant professional body.
Track record of negotiating and winning consultancy activities or other Research and Development (R&D) funding.
