SECTION 4 – STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Child Protection Worker Parent Support works in the area of parental and family support and is responsible for:
Complying with the provisions of the Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008.
Responding to referrals and requests for assistance from Government agencies as defined under Section 35 of the Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008.
Undertaking assessments and interventions of a more complex nature involving parents, children and families in accordance with the Parental Support and Responsibility Act 2008.

Undertakes complex assessments and interventions involving parents, children and families and plans appropriate parenting and family interventions.
Assists other workers in assessments and planning as required.
Engages with parents, children and families to support parents in their role of safeguarding and promoting the well being of their children.
Assists parents in complying with any responsible parenting agreements or orders that they may enter into.
Liaises with other agencies both Government and non-Government in exchanging information and planning services as appropriate to support parents and/or carers who seek assistance.
Manages a caseload of clients and/or co-workers in more complex cases in accordance with the Responsible Parenting Service Practice guidelines.
Represents the Department and supports other staff in applications for a Responsible Parenting Order in the Childrens Court.
Develops and delivers group based parenting courses and activities.
Inter-Agency and Community Collaboration
Maintains links and shares information with other Government and service agencies that have a role under the Act.
Collects and interprets information, records and reports on the progress of participants and recommends appropriate action and strategies under the principle of shared responsibility (Section 9) of the Act.
Represents the Department and Responsible Parenting Service at inter-agency planning, information and community forums.
Program Co-ordination and Support
Assists with the co-ordination of the Home Visitor Program.
Provides assistance and support to team members on all aspects of the Responsible Parenting Service as appropriate.
Assists the Team Leader as required in this area.
Administration
Maintains electronic client records and case management data to Departmental standards.
Assists in the recruitment, supervision and training of other staff as required.
Contributes to Departmental research and evaluation of services as required.
Manages Departmental and Government resources in accordance with Government and Departmental policy.
Complies with the requirements of the Departments Administrative Manual 2009 and Case Practice Manual.

Participates in Emergency Management and Response duties as required.

SECTION 6 – SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

1.Experience in the engagement, assessment and intervention with parents, children and families.
2.Experience in case management and group facilitation skills.
3.Sound assessment, analytical and interpersonal skills and experience in working in a team
4.Understanding of and demonstrated experience in working with indigenous and culturally diverse families and communities.
5.A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology or a relevant human service area.
