Scholarship Information

The following is a list of local scholarships which will be awarded at the Senior Awards Ceremony. Please review the list to find out which scholarships you are eligible for.

Complete the Common Application unless it is noted that there is an application provided by the sponsor .Your counselor will make copies for you before filling out the scholarship name. ALL DEADLINES AND DIRECTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED.

Scholarships Due April 29, 2013:

A– ARMAND ROOK REYES DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Demonstrates pride for Lakewood because of its unique diversity. No application needed…just the essay.

Essay: In terms of racial diversity, Lakewood ranks within the top 12% in the state of NJ. “Describe how growing up in Lakewood and being exposed to this degree of diversity will help benefit you throughout your college and professional career.”

B– LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL POWER SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: need- and merit-based

Essay: general

*Please note: a personal interview will be required

C– LAKEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: need – and merit-based

Essay: general

D – LAKEWOOD ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: need – and merit-based, must have some knowledge of Lakewood Rotary Club

Essay: general

E – OAK STREET SCHOOL P.T.O. SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: attended OakStreetSchool

Essay: Write about a teacher you had at OakStreetSchool who had a positive

influence on you.

F – DALE L. REESE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: merit based – student athlete

Essay: general

G. MATTHEWS FAMILY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: merit based – student athlete – Cross Country/Track

Essay: general

H – FRIEDLANDER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: merit based – student planning on working in Government/Politics or a related field.

Essay: Explain your future plans and how you plan to achieve them. How will

Criteria: Service to the community, academic achievement

Essay: “What activities or projects have you participated in and how have they helped the Lakewood Community.”

K – OCEAN COUNTY COLLEGE FOUNDATION

Separate Application in Guidance

Criteria: Attending OCC in the fall 2013 – Need based

Essay: “What distinguishes your need from other and sets you apart? How will you/your family benefit from the receipt of a scholarship?”

L – LIZZIE H. DUNN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Separate Application in Guidance Office

Criteria: GPA of 2.0 or higher, 3 letters of recommendation

Essay: “My Goals and Aspirations and How I Plan To Achieve Them”

*Please note: a personal interview may be required

M –FAIRWAYS GARDEN CLUB OF LAKEWOOD

Separate Application in Guidance Office

Criteria: Majoring in Agronomy, Botany, City Planning, Conservation, Environmental Science, Floriculture, Horticulture, Land Management, Plant Pathology or related field of study.

N – LHS ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME AWARD

Criteria: Student Athlete

Essay: Brief statement of your experience as an athlete at LHS and what athletics has done for you

O – OCEAN COUNTY COLLEGE FOUNDATION

Criteria: Attending OCC in the fall 2013 – Need based

Essay: “What distinguishes your need from other and sets you apart? How will you/your family benefit from the receipt of a scholarship, Deadline: 6/3/13…but don’t wait…apply NOW!!!

P – OCEAN FIRST SCHOLARSHIP

Separate Application

Criteria: Attending OCC, Brookdale, Georgian Court, or Monmouth University – must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have submitted the FAFSA form. No essay required. Must be received by May 15, 1013…APPLY NOW!

Q – DR. LOUIS GLUCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: entering the medical/health field

R – LAKEWOOD BLACKHAWKS SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: need-based

S – LAKEWOOD EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: entering the field of education, business, science, OR parent employed by Lakewood School District

General Essay Question:

Write an essay stating your career goal and what has influenced you in this choice. Include how the school to which you are applying will assist you in attaining your future goals and why you feel you are deserving of this scholarship

An essay is required for each scholarship to which you are applying. Essays are to be typed and double-spaced and approximately 250 to 500 words in length. Your name must be typed and signed on your essay. Identify the name of the scholarship.

Also, 2 letters of recommendation must be included. If you have a resume, please attach it as well.

T. LAKEWOOOD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Criteria: Must be a current or past member of the LHS P.A.L.S. Program

Community service

Application: Chamber of Commerce Application – Return to Ms. Ponti in the P.A.L.S. Office

Essay: general

U. – SUNRISE MASONIC LODGE MERIT AWARD

Criteria: need – and merit-based

Essay: general, plus 3 letters of recommendation

An essay is required for each scholarship to which you are applying. Essays are to be typed and double-spaced and approximately 250 to 500 words in length. Your name must be typed and signed on your essay. Identify the name of the scholarship.

V - NAACP SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: C+ GPA or higher, 3 letters of recommendation. Extra-curricular activities, community service and leadership skills should be stressed.

Essay: “State your future goals and educational objectives. Include realistic steps you see necessary for the attainment of your future plans.”

W– ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: community service

Essay: general

X - EDWIN R. BRANDT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: need based – student athlete

Essay: Write about how participating in sports has helped to shape the person

you are today.

Y - LAKEWOOOD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE – NOW OPEN TO ALL LHS SENIORS

Criteria: Community service

Application: Chamber of Commerce Application

Essay: Choose 1 of the 4 on the bottom of the application

Z– JOHN F. PATRICK SUPERINTENDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: first generation in family to attend college

Essay: general

AA – LAKEWOOD POLICEMEN’S BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION #71

Separate Application

Criteria: Accepted into a 2 or 4 yr. College or University

Essay: Describe reasons for attending college; why you chose the college/university you will be attending; why will you be successful in the college/major you have chosen.

BB – GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE

Criteria: Member of LHS GSA

Essay: How has being a member of GSA affected you personally? Include what influence this will have in your future.

CC - OCEAN COUNTY COLLEGE FOUNDATION (FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING OCC) Separate Application

You must submit an essay (see application for essay question), completed copy of the FAFSA, transcript, copy of your Driver’s License, and a recommendation letter. *Note: this scholarship is only open to students attending OCC in the fall of 2013.

Deadline: June 1, 2013 - Don’t wait till deadline!!!

DD - OCEAN COUNTY VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS Separate Application

This scholarship is for graduating seniors who will be starting a post-secondary program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School in the fall . You must submit a personal essay and two recommendation forms – see application for more details.

Deadline: May 31, 2013

EE – H. LE BARON TAYLOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Separate Application – DEADLINE: MAY 3, 2013

Criteria: African American high school seniors in Southern NJ

Essay: general
