The Higher Education Subcommittee of the Arkansas Legislative Council and the House and Senate Interim Committees on City, County, and Local Affairs are meeting jointly on Friday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m. Both meetings will be held in the Willard & Pat Walker Community Room (main level) at the Fayetteville Public Library in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Tentative agendas are included.
A block of 7 king bed Junior Suites has been reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bentonville AR. The rate is $109 per night before taxes. You must make your reservation ASAP because rooms are very scarce. To make your reservation, e-mail Nancy Morgan at . Nancy is the sales manager and is doing a special hold on the rooms to keep them from being released to their waiting list. Include in your e-mail your name, address, credit card number, Hilton Honors number if applicable, and that you are a legislator. A full hot-cooked breakfast is available for $6.95. Directions are: From I-540 take Exit 85 Rogers/Bentonville. Then travel West on SE Walton Blvd. for one block. The hotel will be located on the left. SE Walton Blvd, AR Highway 12 and AR 71B merge for one mile to where the hotel is located. If you have problems confirming your room, please call Nancy’s direct number at 479-464-4010.
Discussion at Friday’s meeting will include higher education textbook pricing. Members will then be transported to the Mullens Library on the University of Arkansas campus for a tour of the David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History. After the tour, members will be transported back to the public library. Please let committee staff Tony Vogelgesang or Karen Holliday know if you wish to ride the van to the Pryor Center.
Saturday, members will be given an overview of Complete College America and Arkansas’s participation. At the conclusion of the meeting, members will be taken on a tour of the Fayetteville Public Library and Blair Building. The tour will conclude the two days of meetings.
