See Jim Ellis’ ppt – will be posted with minutes on Senate website. .

Wellness Lounge is just inside from the green roof.

Design based on Four Pillars –
1. Research – first and foremost.
2. Clinical Programs –

3. Community Programs – supplying a variety of programs, several venues. Community Centers, Schools, demonstration kitchen for community/campus with large demo screen for crowds attending
4. Education – long term impact for the center. Variety of different groups – members of center, clinical participants, education of students, classes may be held – healthcare students, current health providers (allied health), etc.
General info – far northwest corner of campus property – Montview and Quentin, wrapped around Fischer house. Late spring of 2012 opening anticipated.

Will allow students preview tours –try it out, run building through paces, see if students are interested in joining/using the facilities…expect students to be pleasantly surprised.

$30M facility. Sauna/steam/whirlpool, quality of finishes, staff, MS degreed ex physiologists, dieticians, etc. Not like other gyms that you may have seen.

Bistro centered on serving healthy food – work with nutrition staff, cater events, deliver food to individuals as well.

Main level – lobby, first floor fitness, 2nd level – track, 3rd level green roof and wellness lounge. Board room for meetings,,,2 floors above that is office spaces for researchers/clinicians.

Q&A
Pool is an exercise pool, not a lap pool. Already angling toward expanding – expansion to lap pool anticipated.

Fee? $34./student/month. Most will be $34..may well be lower than that.

Normal operating hours? Op hours will be driven by demand, now anticipate 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. M-F, weekends..7-5, 7 days a week access.
Comment – improving since previous presentations to student body.

Fee for students – inclusion with dietician, kitchen? Services covered with the fee include those only with fitness component, assessment, ex prescription, consult with fitness experts.
Dietician consult will require additional fee unless student is a member of research project.
Have to be in a research project to use? Yes and no = all interested can access the facility. All who access will have an initial assessment. All who access are theoretically part of a big giant study where data is collected.
When can students test drive the center? Occupancy given 3-4 weeks before open to public. That’s when allow students to try on center. March 2012 guess?

Off topic question about the LightRail train pictured in the presentation - Setbacks for lightrail – bonds, etc. are holding on that.
Parking situation near building? 2 parking fields – one is a visitor lot, then a large lot for those with parkig on campus already. Whatever your arrangement is now, you’ll be able to enter that lot that is adjacent to the center. Walk onto campus, walk into fitness center.
Community users must be part of research, not ‘open community membership’

Family use? Family memberships will be available…spouse join, etc. Not the student rate necessarily. Additional rate for them.
Occupancy with students/faculty/staff access – focused on campus population so concentrated on access for our community = average 2x/week visits, see how services, facilities are holding up with current level of usage. Will be watching that closely.

Black out times for research – built into facility a fitness lab, to accommodate all the studies, vs. competing for facility use.
Green Roof – gardening stuff? BRANCH is looking at building a community garden – Farmers Market or Community Garden – Fitness/Wellness will look at collaborative programming with them in the future to provide a venue for community outreach, Farmer’s Market, etc. Greenhouse will be up on green roof, hydroponic wall inside facility to grow herbs for kitchen.
How many can it accommodate? 100+ can be accommodated in the green roof.
Group wellness component? – 3 studios. Yoga, etc. traditional group exercise programs, etc.
Food options for bringing healthy options for the cart in the triple wide – vendor is open to work with nutrition staff, products, etc.
Bistro Hours? Somewhat more limited, but demand will drive. Vendor is local restaurant group.

Prices – close to Udi’s level pricing, but many options.
First focus is on the campus, and very first is students.
Great hours, great customer service. Somewhat retail oriented – customer service.

Exercise Equipment Bids – Norm Fenn
use ppt from Norm – to be posted on website.
Presentation before included first quote and cost.

Second round of equipment/costs from KOS.
3 quotes from KOS with new, some refurb, all refurb?
angle adjustment on the equipment = equipment all has a number of uses. ‘better than a bowflex’
Buy outright/lease = $7164/year x 3 years

#2 – cardio is refurbished = cheaper. $6144/year x 3 years. Maintenance $200/visit + $1 final purchase payment.

#3 – all equipment is refurbished = $12,615 for all refurb.

Question – willing to approve if not to exceed…add caveats as needed for project to move forward once those are met.
Senate will meet on the May 9 and will vote to approve using funding to cover costs associated with this, or not.
Elections – new officers for 2011-2012 were elected.
