The IGT is an arm of the Executive, reporting directly to Government, although accountable to Parliament as an independent statutory agency. The IGT has national responsibility through a single office located in Sydney.

•tax disputes;
•penalties;
•transfer pricing; and
•cash economy benchmarking.
Since 1 May 2015, the IGT also assists taxpayers, tax practitioners and others with their complaints about the administrative actions of the ATO and TPB. Generally, administrative actions that are the subject of the complaint, relate to the conduct of the ATO and the TPB in their interactions with taxpayers,tax practitioners and others, including the policies and procedures which guide those actions. Matters may be raised online through lodgement of a web form, or via correspondence or by phone.
