Pak Arb Reafinery Ltd

1Pak-Arab Refinery (PARCO) is the largest Petroleum Refining complex in Pakistan which capacity is 100000 PBSD and have following units CDU/VDU, VISB/GCU, D-Max, NHT/PLAT/CCR, Kero/LPG Merox, Sulfur Recovery & Amine Unit.

2Position: Field Operator/Technologist

Units Handled:

1Sulfur Recovery Unit.

2Amine Treating Unit.

3Refinery Sour Water Stripping Unit.

4UOP KEROSENE MEROX UNIT.

5UOP LPG MEROX UNIT.

Sulfur Recovery Unit: 115 MT/day Capacity

1Sulfur recovery section include Reaction furnace--1307 0C, High pressure steam generation system for heat recovery, Claus Reactors (activated Al2O3, CSR-2 catalyst), Sulfur condensers & seal leg system, Sulfur pit for storage, Incinerator, Sulfur pit de-gassing system for removal of H2S and sulfur solidification Machines.

2Tail Gas Treatment (TGT-Section) for recovery of 5% H2S which include SCOT Line Heater, Reactor (Co/Mo), Quencher for cooling of tail gases, SCOT absorber, Amine (MDEA) Regeneration and activated charcoal filtration system.

Amine Treating Unit: 8618 Nm3/hr of Acid Gas Using DEA as Absorbent.

1H2S absorption using DEA from refinery fuel gases, LPG, Reactor recycle gases at D-Max unit.

2Regeneration and filtration system using activated charcoal.

3Sour water Stripper for removal of H2S and NH3 from sour water received from all Process units.

Sour Water System Unit: Capacity 1000 Nm3/hr of Foul Acid Gas Stripping.

Refinery sour water rich in H2s, NH3 and CO2 are treated in sour water stripper. Foul acid gases is routed to

sulfur recovery section and treated water to Crude distillation unit and Effluent treatment plant

UOP KEROSENE MEROX:

1.Sweat kerosene (132m3/hr ) is produced by oxidation of mercaptances present in feed in kero merox Reactor having catalyst MEROX No. 08 impregnated on charcoal, and Merox Plus catalyst promoter is used to enhance the reactors activity. Main controlling parameters are amount of oxidation air to reactor, feed temperature, reactor alkalization with 10oBe caustic and removal of Nephthenic acids in kero feed with 3 Be caustic in electrostatic coalescer . Color, water separation index and amount of RSH are maintained by water washing and salt / clay filters for rundown products like kerosene and jet fuels.

UOP LPG MEROX:

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) 30 m3/hr is treated for sweating i.e. removal of H2S by Di-ethanol amine.(DEA ) absorption and rest of H2s present in LPG is passed from 20oBe caustic. Mercaptans ( R-SH ) present in feed are treated in caustic extractor and removed by liquid liquid extraction. Caustic is regenerated by oxidation process by using Merox WS catalyst and recycled in caustic extractor . This factor economize the LPG sweetening operation.

  1. Achievements:

1.Carried out Passivation and Sulfiding of SCOT Reactor Catalyst (Co/Mo by criterion), at TGT-Section of Sulfur Recovery unit for inspection and catalyst skimming during TA-3 in April 16, 2012 at PARCO.

2.Carried out Shut down, Empty out of vessels, Steam out for Hydrocarbon freeing, Safe hand over of Equipments to Maintenance, Job safety analysis regarding critical jobs, Vessel entry, catalyst and packed bed material replacement, Catalyst skimming, Inspection, Box-up, Leak test , Pressure test, O2 freeing and safe Start-up of units in TA-II as Field Operator.

3.Dry out of furnaces (Reaction furnace, Incinerator and SCOT Line heater)during TA-2.

2Current Job Responsibilities:

Being a “Field Operator” my current job responsibilities are:

1 Looks after safety aspect as a priority.

2 Follows up shift activities, and ensures high level of safety on the plant.

3 Respects work permits recommendations & Checks each signed work

Permit at the site and ensure that the jobs are performed safely.

4 Handed over of equipments in safe condition for maintenance works.

5 Looks after equipments & plant. And checks all running equipment, Logs

Process parameters and reports abnormalities.

6 Follows the standing instructions and operating procedures.

7 Proposes solutions to problems on the plant & Optimizes production.

8 Carries out daily, weekly, and monthly routine jobs.

9 Changes over running equipment as and when required.

10 Co-ordinates & reports to the DCS operator & shift supervisor.

 Sample collection for all different campaign.
