SummerSchool! Educational Development Series
It's Year 2 of the UVA Summer Educational Development Series. Come join us Thursday mornings at 8 am and tackle those issues you've been wanting to address. How do you manage to teach and generate useful evaluations in a busy clinic? How do you teach and model emotional intelligence and professionalism? How can you turn your daily activities into scholarship and ultimately into a promotion? How do you transmit critical thinking and efficient, yet thoroughclinical reasoning to your trainees?

Our first session will be our own Dr. Linda Waggoner-Fountain, "Emotional Intelligence" on July 10th.See you there!

Transfer Center Services
DirectCall, a vendor who specializes in transfer services for hundreds of hospitals and healthcare organizations across the country, started managing requests from external hospitals and healthcare agencies to UVAMC on June 2, 2014.

  1. What to do if a Referring Physician Calls You Directly: If you get a telephone call directly from an outside hospital or physician’s office, please obtain the referring physicians name and telephone number, then call 1-844-GOUVATC and ask DirectCall to contact the referring physician. We do not recommend that you try to obtain the information first and bring DirectCall in afterwards.
  2. Where is the Important Paperwork Saved?:
  • When Direct Call has arranged physician acceptance for an external transfer, any transfer-related documentation to support care coordination will be e-faxed to a monitored email group in Health Information Services (HIS).
  • This email is monitored 24/7 and the documentation will be scanned into the transferring patient’s Epic chart.
  • The documentation can be found in the Media Tab under “Outside Facility – Transfer Scan”.
  1. Website Information: The website for Transfers has been updated by Marketing ( It provides phone numbers to call for transfers and physician consults. It also provides a list of information requirements for referring physicians/agencies that are most commonly needed during the transfer process.
  2. Quick Reference: The postcard that we sent to 14,000 addresses is attached. You may find it useful as a quick reference to post in your office or work area.
  3. Questions: Contact Sarah Ferrell ( and PIC 3189) or Tom Berry ( and PIC 3516). We recommend you page us if you need immediate assistance.

Patient Praise
NEW! Enjoy the comments that the Health System has received from patients and families!

Anytime that Christopher needs to be seen or has a problem, Dr. William Wilson is there or he will get back in touch with you to see exactly what's going on. Dr. Wilson one of the best there is.

We absolutely love the staff in Pediatric Hemoc!

Northridge Pediatrics is a wonderful practice. I would not take my child anywhere else for her care. From the front desk staff, nurses and doctors I couldn't ask for better care and customer service. There needs to be more offices that reflect the superb care they provide.

Dr. Boggs is the best doctor!

Dr. Abel and all staff involved are very professional while being very personable and thorough. Could not ask for better care for her scoliosis and our peace of mind. Thank you.

Karen always answers my calls or returns them ASAP and answers any concerns or question I may have.
