The post will be based at the Pitcairn Centre, Glenrothes but will involve travel between the Trust’s other bases/sites throughout Fife.

Job Purpose

To carry out repair and maintenance tasks on the Fife Coastal Path and all other areas within the service remit including a range of maintenance work in the Lomond Hills Regional Park and other sites as instructed.

Key Responsibilities

·  Assist with routine maintenance and repair eg verge cutting, litter picking, surface repairs, fence building etc on all sites FCCT have responsibility for.

·  Responsible for proper use, maintenance and safekeeping of equipment, including PPE, ensuring that faults and concerns are reported and dealt with.

·  Ensuring all relevant certification for equipment use and training is both current and valid.

·  Ability to work unsupervised, using initiative to overcome obstacles and ensure that work is carried out to required standards.

·  Scheduling of routine work or rotas.

·  Providing (written) work reports to Charge-hands or Management.

·  Liaise with suppliers to organise materials etc.

·  Some supervision of seasonal / new staff members or volunteers e.g. Instructing, allocating and checking work.

·  Attending training that is relevant to the delivery of team / organisational objectives.

·  Handling of petty cash / cheques

·  Acting on behalf of FCCT liaising with members of the public and landowners answering queries or concerns from them by responding quickly and politely.

The Person

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a sound background in maintenance and repairs and will already hold certification in two areas relevant to the role eg brush cutting, spraying pesticides etc

There is a direct requirement that the post holder has the skills and the capacity to be able to travel throughout Fife independently and should therefore hold a clean current UK driving licence.

General

A current normal working week is 36 hours Monday to Friday inclusive. This post may have a requirement for limited out of hours working which is normally on a planned basis involving evening and weekend working for the purpose of delivering certain client elements of the work. FCCT reserve the right to allocate other duties of equivalent grade and status as determined by the workload of the organisation.

A Flexible working arrangement is in operation and any time worked above the normal 36 hour week is compensated for by time off in lieu but is not encouraged.

Holiday entitlement is currently 24 days plus 8 days Public Holiday (rising to 29 days after the completion of five years’ service)

ATTRIBUTES / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE / METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
Qualifications and Experience / At least 12 months experience of working in a countryside / estate worker / landscaping role.
Certification in at least 2 of the following: Chainsaw, Brushcutter, digger, dumper, roller, Pesticide application, first aid, wood chipper, tractor driving, large trailer towing, ATV’s, off-road driving.
Must be willing to undergo training in any of the above certificates or those deemed essential to the requirements of the role.
Literate and numerate. / Background / experience in nature conservation and environmental work.
Certification in all of the following: Chainsaw, Brushcutter, digger, dumper, roller, Pesticide application, first aid, wood chipper, tractor driving, large trailer towing, ATV’s, off-road driving.
Some experience in path construction, installation and maintenance of countryside furniture including, gates, fences, signs, bridges and boardwalks.
Experience in forestry / woodland management.
Experience of working with landowners, suppliers and the public.
A good understanding of Health & Safety at work
