1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Pipe Welding: Qualify procedures and operators according to the following:
  2. ASME Compliance: Safety valves and pressure vessels shall bear the appropriate ASME label. Fabricate and stamp flash tanks to comply with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code: SectionVIII, Division1.

1.6WARRANTY

  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on Domestic Products: Conbraco Industries, Inc. warrants products to be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of five years. This warranty applies to Apollo brand products with "Made in the USA" markings only. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on International Products: APOLLO INTERNATIONAL products will be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of two years. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.

2.1PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Performance requirements in this article are for the piping system. Individual components may have higher pressure or temperature ratings.

  1. Components and installation shall be capable of withstanding the following minimum working pressures and temperatures unless otherwise indicated:

Insert minimum working pressure for systems in "HP Steam Piping" and "LP Steam Piping" subparagraphs below.

Insert or retain minimum working pressure and temperature for systems in "Condensate Piping" and "Makeup-Water Piping" subparagraphs below.

2.3STRAINERS

  1. Bronze, Y-Pattern Strainers:

In "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph below, 59, 59-PR, 59-300, and 59-400 Series have optional 20, 40,50, 60, 80, and 100 mesh stainless-steel screen available. 59-400 Series (male x female available NPS 3/4 (DN 20) and NPS 1 (DN 25). Tapped cap with blow off ball valve available NPS 1/2 (DN 15) to NPS 2-1/2 (DN 65), and all are made in U.S.A. Model 59LF lead free option is available.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Apollo, Conbraco Industries, Inc. [59 Series (threaded connections)] [59-PR Series (press connections)] [59-300 Series (solder connections)] [59-400 Series (female x male threaded connections)], or comparable product by one of the following:
  2. Insert manufacturer's name>.
  3. Body: ASTMB 584 Cast Bronze, with bottom drain connection.
  4. End Connections: Threaded, solder, or Press ends for strainers NPS4(DN100) and smaller.

In "Strainer Screen" Subparagraph below, the larger mesh numbers have larger passages, thus allowing larger objects to pass.

  1. Strainer Screen: Stainless-steel, [20] [50]-mesh strainer, or perforated stainless-steel basket.
  2. Tapped blowoff plug.
  3. CWP Ratings for Threaded and Solder Connections: 400 psig(3000-kPa) cold working pressure.
  4. SWP Rating for Threaded Connections: 125 psig(860-kPa) working steam pressure.
  5. CWP Ratings for Press Connections: 250-psig (1725-kPa).
  6. SWP Rating for Press Connections: 15 psig(100 kPa).
  1. Cast-Iron, Y-Pattern Strainers:

In "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph below, standard YCT Series has threaded connections and threaded cover with 20 mesh stainless-steel screen for NPS 1/4 (DN 8) to NPS 2 (DN 50) and 0.045 inch (1-mm) perforated stainless-steel basket for NPS 2-1/2 (DN 65) to NPS 3 (DN 80). Optional 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 mesh screen and 1/16 inch (1.5-mm), 3/32 inch (2.5-mm), 1/8 inch (3-mm), 5/32 inch (4-mm), 3/16 inch (5-mm), and 1/4 inch (6-mm) perforations are available. Standard YCF Series has ANSI 125 # flange connections with 0.045 inch (1-mm) stainless-steel perforated basket for NPS 2 (DN 50) to NPS 4 (DN 80) and 0.125 inch (3-mm) perforated stainless steel basket for NPS 4 (DN 100) to NPS 12 (DN 300). Optional 20, 40. 80, and 100 mesh screens are available. YCF Series is certified lead free and comes standard with Epoxy coating.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Apollo, Conbraco Industries, Inc. Apollo International [YCT] [and] [YCF] Series or comparable product by one of the following:

  5. Strainer Screen: Stainless-steel, [20] [40] [60]-mesh strainer, or perforated stainless-steel basket.
  6. Tapped, Blowoff-Plug, CWP Rating for Threaded Connections: 400 psig(3000 kPa).
  7. SWP Rating for Threaded Connections: 250-psig(1725-kPa) working steam pressure.
  8. CWP Rating for Flange Connections: 200 psig(1500 kPa).
  9. SWP Rating for Flange Connections: 150 psig (1000 kPa).
  1. Basket Strainers:
  2. Body: ASTMA126, ClassB cast iron, with bolted cover and bottom drain connection.
  3. End Connections: Threaded ends for strainers NPS2 (DN50) and smaller; flanged ends for strainers NPS2-1/2 (DN65) and larger.
  4. Strainer Screen: Stainless-steel, [20] <Insert number> mesh strainer, and perforated stainless-steel basket with 50 percent free area.
  5. CWP Rating: 250-psig (1725-kPa) working steam pressure.

2.4FLASH TANKS

  1. Shop or factory fabricated of welded steel according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, for 150-psig (1035-kPa) rating; and bearing ASME label. Fabricate with tappings for low-pressure steam and condensate outlets, high-pressure condensate inlet, air vent, safety valve, and legs.

2.5SAFETY VALVES

Valves in first paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 through NPS2-1/2 (DN15 through DN65).

In "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph below, 10-600 Series is high capacity ASME Section IV "HV" for hot water to 150 psig (1034 kPa) at 250 deg F (120 deg C), 17 Series is economy ASME Section IV, "HV" for hot water to 150 psig (1034 kPa) at 250 deg F (120 deg C). 12 Series, 13 Series are eoconomy ASME Section IV "HV" for low pressure steam to 15 psig (100 kPa). 19 Series is general purpose ASME Section VIII for steam, and 500 Series is ASME Section VIII "UV" for hot water. 10-600, 12, 13, 14, 18C, 19, and 500 are made in U.S.A. Apollo International drip pan elbows DPE available NPS 3/4 to NPS 8 (DN 20 to DN 200). Select DPE to match discharge connection of the pressure relief valve.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Apollo, Conbraco Industries, Inc.[10-600 Series] [12 Series] [13 Series] [14 Series] [17 Series] [18C Series] [19 Series] [29 Series] [500 Series] valves, and DPE Series drip-pan elbows, or comparable product by one of the following:

  10. Size and Capacity: As required for equipment according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

Valves in "Cast-Iron Safety Valves" Paragraph below are available in NPS1-1/2 through NPS6 (DN40 through DN150) in various configurations including FNPT x FNPT, 250 # psig Flange x FNPT, 250 # psig Flange x 125 # psi Flange.

  1. Cast-Iron Safety Valves: ASME labeled.

In "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph below 119 Series is ASME Section VIII "UV" for off-boiler steam to 250 psi (1725 kPa) at 450 deg F (230 deg C). Flange x NPT available to NPS 4 (DN 100), NPT x NPT available to NPS 3 (DN 80), 250# psig (1725 kPa) Flange x 125 # psig (861 kPa) Flange available to NPS 6 (DN 150) and is made in U.S.A. Apollo International Drip Pan Elbows DPE available NPS 3/4 to NPS 8 (DN 20 to DN 200). Select DPE to match discharge connection of the pressure relief valve.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Apollo, Conbraco Industries, Inc. 119 Series valve and DPE Series drip-pan elbows, or comparable product by one of the following:

  8. Spring: Fully enclosed cadmium-plated steel spring with adjustable pressure range and positive shutoff, factory set and sealed.
  9. Pressure Class: 250.
  10. Drip-Pan Elbow: Cast iron and having threaded inlet, outlet, and drain, with threads complying with ASMEB1.20.1.
  11. Exhaust Head: Cast iron and having threaded inlet and drain, with threads complying with ASMEB1.20.1.
  12. Size and Capacity: As required for equipment according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

2.6PRESSURE-REDUCING VALVES

  1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:

Schedule pressure-reducing valves and include size, capacity, minimum length of straight pipe on both sides of valve, and inlet and outlet pressures. Retain pressure-reducing valves to develop no more than 85 dBA at an elevation of 3 feet (1m) above adjacent floor and at 3 feet (1m) in any direction. Use Schedule80 minimum for piping inlet and outlet connections to pressure-reducing valves, to achieve the required sound level, or use sound attenuators.

  1. Size, Capacity, and Pressure Rating: Factory set for inlet and outlet pressures indicated.
  2. Description: Pilot-actuated, diaphragm type, with adjustable pressure range and positive shutoff.
  3. Body: Cast iron.
  4. End Connections: Threaded connections for valves NPS2 (DN50) and smaller and flanged connections for valves NPS2-1/2 (DN65) and larger.
  5. Trim: Hardened stainless steel.
  6. Head and Seat: Replaceable, main head stem guide fitted with flushing and pressure-arresting device cover over pilot diaphragm.
  7. Gaskets: Non-asbestos materials.

If Project has more than one type or size of pressure-reducing valve, delete "Capacities and Characteristics" Paragraph below and schedule pressure-reducing valve performance on Drawings.
