1.3  ACTION SUBMITTALS

Do not ask for manufacturer's specifications, material safety data sheets, installation instructions, and similar items that may conflict with specification requirements or needlessly involve Architect in Contractor's means and methods of construction.

1.  Pipes, tubes, fittings, and specialties for each type of piping.

2.  Joining materials.

  1. Sustainable Design Submittals:

"Product Data" Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes. Coordinate with requirements for adhesives.

1.5  WARRANTY

  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on Domestic Products: Conbraco Industries, Inc. warrants products to be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of five years. This warranty applies to Apollo brand products with "Made in the USA" markings only. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  2. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on International Products: APOLLO INTERNATIONAL products will be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of two years. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  3. Manufacturer's Warranty on LASCO Fittings, Inc. products will be free of defects in workmanship for a period of three (3) years from date of installation. The manufacturers liability under expressed or implied warranty or for any reason is limited to furnishing replacement units or granting a credit for defective units.   4. Elkhart Products Corporation warranties our fittings to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of fifty (50) years. The Elkhart Product Corporation Water Heater hoses carry a two (2) year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Any fitting which proves to be defective will be replaced or a credit issued, but no incidental labor charges, expenses or damages will be allowed.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Manufacturers and products listed in SpecAgent and Masterworks Paragraph Builder are neither recommended nor endorsed by the AIA or ARCOM. Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. For definitions of terms and requirements for Contractor's product selection, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1  PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Revise pressure ratings in this article to suit Project. Gray-water piping may require higher rating if used in high-rise buildings.

  1. Water Piping Minimum Working Pressure: [50 psig (345 kPa)] [80 psig (552 kPa)] [100 psig (690 kPa)] <Insert value> unless otherwise indicated.

2.2  COPPER TUBE AND FITTINGS

Tube in "Hard Copper Tube" Paragraph below is available in NPS1/8 to NPS12 (DN6 to DN300).

  1. Hard Copper Tube: [ASTMB88, TypeL (ASTMB88M, TypeB)] [and] [ASTMB88, TypeM (ASTMB88M, TypeC)] water tube, drawn temper.

Tube in "Soft Copper Tube" Paragraph below is available in NPS1/8 to NPS12 (DN6 to DN300).

  1. Soft Copper Tube: [ASTMB88, TypeK (ASTMB88M, TypeA)] [and] [ASTMB88, TypeL (ASTMB88M, TypeB)] water tube, annealed temper.

Fittings in "Cast-Copper, Solder-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS12 (DN8 to DN300).

  1. Cast-Copper, Solder-Joint Fittings: ASMEB16.18, pressure fittings.

1.  Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by Elkhart Products Corporation or comparable product by one of the following:

  1. NIBCO INC.
  2. Lee Brass.
  3. Insert manufacturer's name>.

Fittings in "Wrought-Copper, Solder-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS8 (DN8 to DN200).

  1. Wrought-Copper, Solder-Joint Fittings: ASMEB16.22, wrought-copper pressure fittings.

1.  Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by Elkhart Products Corporation, made in USA, or comparable product by one of the following:

  1. NIBCO INC.

Flanges in "Bronze Flanges" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS12 (DN15 to DN300).

  1. Bronze Flanges: ASMEB16.24, Class150, with solder-joint ends.

1.  Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by Elkhart Products Corporation or comparable product by one of the following:

Unions in "Copper Unions" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS4 (DN8 to DN100).

Fittings in "Copper Pressure-Seal-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS4 (DN15 to DN100).

  1. Copper Pressure-Seal-Joint Fittings:

1.  Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Elkhart Products Corporation; ApolloXpress fittings, made in USA, or comparable product by one of the following:

a.  NIBCO INC.

b.  Insert manufacturer's name>.

2.  For Types K, L, and M hard copper tubing NPS1/2 (DN15) to NPS4 (DN100) and soft copper tubing in NPS1/2 (DN15) to NPS1-1/4 (DN32).

3.  Housing: Copper or bronze.

4.  Sealing Element: EPDM.

5.  Multiple leak path detection system.

6.  Tools: Manufacturer's special tools.

7.  Maximum 200 psig (1379 kPa) working-pressure rating at 250 deg F (121 deg C).

8.  Fittings for NPS2 (DN50) and Smaller: Wrought-copper fitting with EPDM-rubber, O-ring seal in each end.

9.  Fittings for NPS2-1/2 to NPS4 (DN65 to DN100): Cast-bronze or wrought-copper fitting with stainless-steel grip ring and EPDM-rubber, O-ring seal in each end.

Fittings in "Copper Push-on-Joint Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS2 (DN15 to DN50).

  1. Copper Push-on-Joint Fittings:

1.  Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Elkhart Products Corporation; Copper Loc non-removable pressure fittings, made in USA, or comparable product by one of the following:

  1. Victaulic Company.
  2. Insert manufacturer's name>.

2.  Description:

  1. Cast-copper fitting complying with ASMEB16.18 or wrought-copper fitting complying with ASMEB16.22.
  2. Maximum 200 psig (1379 kPa) working-pressure rating at 250 degF (121 degC).
  3. Stainless-steel grip ring and EPDM-rubber O-ring seal.

Connections in "Copper-Tube, Extruded-Tee Connections" Paragraph below can be used instead of tee fittings in copper tubing; delete below if prohibited.

  1. Copper-Tube, Extruded-Tee Connections:

1.  Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following:

  1. T-DRILL Industries Inc.
  2. Insert manufacturer's name>.

2.  Description: Tee formed in copper tube according to ASTMF2014.

Fittings and couplings in "Appurtenances for Grooved-End Copper Tubing" Paragraph below are available in NPS2 to NPS8 (DN50 to DN200).

  1. Appurtenances for Grooved-End Copper Tubing:

1.  Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:

  1. Anvil International.
  2. Shurjoint Piping Products.
  3. Victaulic Company.
  4. Insert manufacturer's name>.

2.  Bronze Fittings for Grooved-End, Copper Tubing: ASTMB75/B75M copper tube or ASTMB584 bronze castings.

AWWAC606 does not cover couplings in "Mechanical Couplings for Grooved-End Copper Tubing" Subparagraph below. At least three listed manufacturers make this type of coupling with dimensions for copper tube and fittings.

3.  Mechanical Couplings for Grooved-End Copper Tubing:

  1. Copper-tube dimensions and design similar to AWWAC606.
  2. Ferrous housing sections.
  3. EPDM-rubber gaskets suitable for hot and cold water.
  4. Bolts and nuts.
  5. Minimum Pressure Rating: 300 psig (2070 kPa).

Tube and fittings in two paragraphs below are available in NPS1-1/4 to NPS8 (DN32 to DN200).

  1. Copper DWV Tube: ASTMB306, drainage tube, drawn temper.
  2. Copper Drainage Fittings: ASMEB16.23, cast copper or ASMEB16.29, wrought copper, solder-joint fittings.

2.3  PVC WATER PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe in this article is available in NPS1/8 to NPS24 (DN6 to DN600).

  1. PVC Water Pipe: ASTMD1785, [Schedule40] [and] [Schedule80] [purple in color].

Fittings in "PVC Water Socket Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/8 to NPS12 (DN6 to DN300).

  1. PVC Water Socket Fittings: [ASTMD2466 for Schedule40] [and] [ASTMD2467 for Schedule80].

In "Basis-Of-Design Product" Subparagraph below, LASCO Fittings are made in the USA.

2.4  PP PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe in this article is available in NPS1/2 to NPS10 (DN15 to DN250).

  1. PP Water Pipe: ASTMF2389, [SDR7.4] [and] [SDR11] [purple in color].

Fittings in "PP Water Socket Fittings" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS10 (DN15 to DN250).

  1. PP Water Socket Fittings: ASTMF2389[,purple in color].

2.5  PIPING JOINING MATERIALS

  1. Pipe-Flange Gasket Materials:

1.  AWWAC110/A21.10, rubber, flat face, 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) thick or ASMEB16.21, nonmetallic and asbestos free unless otherwise indicated.

2.  Full-face or ring type unless otherwise indicated.

  1. Metal, Pipe-Flange Bolts and Nuts: ASMEB18.2.1, carbon steel unless otherwise indicated.
  2. Solder Filler Metals: ASTMB32, lead-free alloys.
  3. Flux: ASTMB813, water flushable.
  4. Brazing Filler Metals: AWSA5.8/A5.8M, BCuP Series, copper-phosphorus alloys for general-duty brazing unless otherwise indicated.
  5. Solvent Cements for Joining PVC Piping: ASTMD2564. Include primer according to ASTMF656.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; and Green Globes. VOC content limit is that for adhesive primers for plastic.

1.  Adhesive primer shall have a VOC content of 550g/L or less.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.1.

2.  Adhesive primer shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; and Green Globes. VOC content limit is that for PVC welding compounds.

3.  Solvent cement shall have a VOC content of 510g/L or less.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.1.

4.  Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

  1. Plastic, Pipe-Flange Gaskets, Bolts, and Nuts: Type and material recommended by piping system manufacturer unless otherwise indicated.

2.6  TRANSITION FITTINGS

  1. General Requirements:

1.  Same size as pipes to be joined.

2.  Pressure rating at least equal to pipes to be joined.

3.  End connections compatible with pipes to be joined.

  1. Fitting-Type Transition Couplings: Manufactured piping coupling or specified piping system fitting.

Couplings in "Sleeve-Type Transition Coupling" Paragraph below are available in NPS1/2 to NPS144 (DN15 to DN3600).

  1. Sleeve-Type Transition Coupling: AWWAC219.

1.  Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following:

  1. Cascade Waterworks Mfg. Co.
  2. Ford Meter Box Company, Inc. (The).
  3. General Electric Company.
  4. JCM Industries, Inc.
  5. Romac Industries, Inc.
  6. Smith-Blair, Inc.
  7. Viking Johnson.
  8. Insert manufacturer's name>.

Fittings in "Plastic-to-Metal Transition Fittings" Paragraph below are available in at least NPS1/2 to NPS2 (DN15 to DN50).
