1.3REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

a.Conform to applicable code for support of plumbing piping.

b.Supports for Sprinkler Piping: In conformance with NFPA 13.

c.Supports for Standpipes: In conformance with NFPA 14.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1ACCESSORIES

a.Hanger Rods: Mild steel threaded both ends, threaded one end, or continuous threaded.

b.Beam clamps shall not be of the set screw type unless they also have a positive means of securing the clamp against horizontal movement, i.e. horizontal j-bolt extending to the opposite flange of the beam or joist or similar device.

c.Hanger loads of up to 300 pounds can be applied to the top or bottom chord of a bar joist using a threaded rod between the chord angles with washer and double nuts above and below the chord within 6" of a panel point. Heavier loads require coordination with the joist manufacturer.

2.2PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

2.2.1.Plumbing Piping DWV:

a.Conform to MSS SP58, MSS SP69, MSS SP89.

b.Hangers for Pipe Sizes 1/2 to 11/2 Inch: Malleable iron or Carbon steel, adjustable swivel, split ring.

c.Hangers for Pipe Sizes 2 Inches and Over: Carbon steel, adjustable, clevis.

d.Multiple or Trapeze Hangers: Steel channels with welded spacers and hanger rods.

e.Wall Support for Pipe Sizes to 3 Inches: Cast iron hook.

f.Wall Support for Pipe Sizes 4 Inches and Over: Welded steel bracket and wrought steel clamp.

g.Vertical Support: Steel riser clamp.

h.Floor Support: Cast iron adjustable pipe saddle, lock nut, nipple, floor flange, and concrete pier or steel support.

2.3INSERTS

a.Inserts: Malleable iron case of galvanized steel shell and expander plug for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attaching to forms; size inserts to suit threaded hanger rods.

b.Self drilling expansion anchors, powder driven anchors, or other similar devices shall be applied in accord with their manufacturers published ratings and instructions.

2.4FLASHING

a.Metal Flashing: 26 gage galvanized steel.

b.Metal Counterflashing: 22 gage galvanized steel.

2.5EQUIPMENT CURBS AND ROOF MOUNTING RAILS

a.Fabrication: Welded 18 gage (1.2 mm) galvanized steel shell and base, mitered 3 inch (75 mm) cant, variable step to match roof insulation, 11/2 inch thick insulation, factory installed wood nailer, 14" minimum height, higher where noted. Vary height of curbs and rails to compensate for roof pitch and make top of curb level.

b.For piping penetration curbs, provide a curb cap with tapered neoprene pipe flashing sleeves and stainless steel drawbands.

c.Construct to meet the wind loading criteria and local seismic design criteria on structural drawings.

2.6SLEEVES

a.Sleeves for Pipes Through Nonfire Rated Floors: 18 gage (1.2 mm thick) galvanized steel.

b.Sleeves for Pipes Through Nonfire Rated Beams, Walls, Footings, and Potentially Wet Floors: Steel pipe or 18 gauge galvanized steel.

c.Sleeves for Pipes Through Fire Rated and Fire Resistive Floors and Walls, and Fire Proofing: Prefabricated fire rated sleeves including seals, AWL listed.

d.Sleeves for Round Ductwork: Galvanized steel.

e.Sleeves for Rectangular Ductwork: Galvanized steel.

f.Firestopping Insulation: Glass fiber type, noncombustible.

g.Sealant: Acrylic

2.7FLOOR SUPPORTS

a.Concrete housekeeping pads shall comply with Division 3. Concrete pads shall extend 6" (150 mm) beyond equipment and be 4" (100 mm) high.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1INSTALLATION

a.Install in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

b.Support of all equipment, piping, etc. such that it will withstand a force of 5 times its weight in any direction and 1.5 times its weight downward.

c.Do not attach to roof deck, connect to structural members and span between same with structural members, Unistrut, etc.

d.Roof mounted equipment curbs and roof mounting rails shall be installed to withstand the wind and seismic loading required by Section 01000.

3.2INSERTS

a.Provide inserts for placement in concrete formwork.

b.Provide inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams.

c.Provide hooked rod to concrete reinforcement section for inserts carrying pipe over 4 inches (100 mm).

d.Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, locate inserts flush with slab surface.

e.Where inserts are omitted, drill through concrete slab from below and provide throughbolt with recessed square steel plate and nut recessed into and grouted flush with slab.

3.3PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS

a.Support horizontal piping as scheduled.

b.Install hangers to provide minimum 1/2 inch space between finished covering and adjacent work.

c.Place hangers within 12 inches of each horizontal elbow.

d.Use hangers with 11/2 inch minimum vertical adjustment.

e.Support horizontal cast iron pipe adjacent to each hub, with 5 feet maximum spacing between hangers.

f.Support vertical piping at every floor. Support vertical cast iron pipe at each floor at hub.

g.Where several pipes can be installed in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers.

h.Support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping.

i.Provide [copper plated hangers and supports for copper piping] [sheet lead packing between hanger or support and piping].

j.Design hangers for pipe movement without disengagement of supported pipe.

3.4EQUIPMENT BASES AND SUPPORTS

a.Provide housekeeping pads of concrete, minimum 4 inches (100 mm) thick and extending 6 inches (150 mm) beyond supported equipment. Refer to Section 03300.

b.Provide templates, anchor bolts, and accessories for mounting and anchoring equipment.

c.Construct supports of steel members. Brace and fasten with flanges or plates bolted to structure.

d.Provide rigid anchors for pipes after vibration isolation components are installed.

3.5FLASHING

a.Provide flexible flashing and metal counterflashing where piping and ductwork penetrate weather or waterproofed walls, floors, and roofs.

b.Provide curbs for mechanical roof installations 14 inches (350 mm) minimum high above roofing surface. Flash and counterflash with sheet metal; seal watertight. Attach counterflashing and mechanical equipment, and lap base flashing on roof curbs. Flatten and solder joints.

c.Adjust storm collars tight to pipe with bolts; calk around top edge. Use storm collars above roof jacks. Screw vertical flange section to face of curb.

3.6SLEEVES

a.Set sleeves in position in formwork. Provide reinforcing around sleeves.

b.Size sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and contraction. Provide for continuous insulation wrapping.

c.Extend sleeves through floors one inch (25 mm) above finished floor level. Calk sleeves.

d.Where piping or ductwork penetrates floor, ceiling, or wall, close off space between pipe or duct and adjacent work with stuffing (fire stopping at fire walls) insulation and caulk air tight. Provide close fitting metal collar or escutcheon covers at both sides of penetration.

e.Install chrome plated steel escutcheons at finished surfaces.
