1.1RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.2SUMMARY

1.3DEFINITIONS

Retain terms that remain after this Section has been edited for a project. "Intermediate crimp" is also called "intercrimped" and "triple crimped."

  1. Intermediate Crimp: Wires pass over one and under the next adjacent wire in both directions, with wires crimped before weaving and with extra crimps between the intersections.

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Sustainable Design Submittals:
  3. Product Data: For recycled content, indicating postconsumer and preconsumer recycled content and cost.
  4. Shop Drawings:

Retain "Delegated-Design Submittal" Paragraph below if design services have been delegated to Contractor.

  1. Delegated-Design Submittal: For wire mesh partitions indicated to comply with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible for their preparation.

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Coordinate "Qualification Data" Paragraph below with qualification requirements in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" and as may be supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

  1. Qualification Data: For Installer.

1.6CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Maintenance Data: For wire mesh partition hardware to include in maintenance manuals.

1.7MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.
  2. Door Locks: Furnish [5] <Insert number> percent of quantity installed for each type indicated, but no fewer than <Insert number> locks.

1.8QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Installer Qualifications: An entity that employsinstallers and supervisors who are trained and approved by manufacturer.

1.9DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Packaging in first paragraph below may increase cost but may be required for painted items.

  1. Deliver wire mesh items palleted and wrapped to provide protection during transit and Project-site storage. Use vented plastic.
  2. Store wire mesh panels in a dry area out of weather and prohibit stacking other materials on top.

1.10FIELD CONDITIONS

If possible, design wire mesh units so that they do not have to fit other construction, and delete this article.

  1. Field Measurements: Verify actual dimensions of construction contiguous with wire mesh units by field measurements before fabrication.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Manufacturers and products listed in SpecAgent and MasterWorks Paragraph Builder are neither recommended nor endorsed by the AIA or Avitru. Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. 2.1MANUFACTURERS

Retain "Basis-of-Design Product" Paragraph and list of manufacturers below to require a specific product or a comparable product from manufacturers listed.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide ACORN Wire & Iron Works;[130A, Standard Duty] [135A, Heavy Duty]or comparable product by one of the following:
  2. Folding Guard Corporation.
  3. Indiana Wire Products, Inc.
  4. Insert manufacturer's name>.

2.2PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain "Delegated Design" Paragraph below if Contractor is required to assume responsibility for design.

  1. Delegated Design: Engage a qualified professional engineer, as defined in Section014000 "Quality Requirements," to design wire mesh units.
  2. Structural Performance: Wire mesh units shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and the following loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated.

Consult a structural engineer experienced in engineering wire mesh partitions of type indicated to quantify design loads applicable to Project. Verify compliance with codes. See the Evaluations.

Retain one or more of four subparagraphs below if design loads and load combinations are not indicated on Drawings. First subparagraph is an example based on the IBC requirement for guards.

  1. Concentrated load of 50 lbf (0.22 kN) applied horizontally on an area of 1 sq. ft. (0.093 sq.m) at any location on a panel.
  2. Total load of [200 lbf (0.89 kN)] <Insert value> applied uniformly over each panel.
  3. Concentrated load and total load need not be assumed to act concurrently.
  4. Insert loads or load combinations>.

2.3MATERIALS

Retain "Recycled Content of Steel Products" Paragraph below to specify recycled content if required. An alternative method of requiring recycled content is to retain requirement in Project's Division01 sustainable design requirements Section that gives Contractor the option and responsibility to determine how recycled content requirements will be met.

  1. Recycled Content of Steel Products: Postconsumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content not less than [25] <Insert number> percent.
  2. Steel Wire: ASTMA510 (ASTMA510M).
  3. Steel Plates, Channels, Angles, and Bars: ASTMA36/A36M.
  4. Steel Sheet: Cold-rolled steel sheet, ASTMA1008/A1008M, Commercial Steel (CS), TypeB.

Steel tubing and pipe are sized differently. Pipe is designated by nominal pipe size and weight or schedule number. Tubing is designated by OD and wall thickness.

  1. Steel Tubing: ASTMA500/A500M, cold-formed structural-steel tubing or ASTMA513, Type5, mandrel-drawn mechanical tubing.
  2. Panel-to-Panel Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard steel bolts and nuts.
  3. Post-Installed Anchors: Capable of sustaining, without failure, a load equal to 6 times the load imposed when installed in unit masonry and 4 times the load imposed when installed in concrete, as determined by testing in accordance with ASTME488/E488M, conducted by a qualified independent testing agency.

Retain "Power-Driven Fasteners" Paragraph below if power-driven fasteners are allowed.

  1. Power-Driven Fasteners: ICC-ESAC70.

2.4STANDARD-DUTY WIRE MESH PARTITIONS

Mesh in "Mesh" Paragraph below is industry standard for standard-duty wire mesh. Revise to suit mesh with different wire diameter or different pattern.

  1. Mesh: 0.135-inch- (3.5-mm-) diameter, intermediate-crimp steel wire woven into 1-1/2-inch (38-mm) diamond mesh.
  2. Vertical Panel Framing: 1-1/4-by-5/8-by-0.080-inch (32-by-16-by-2.0-mm) cold-rolled, C-shaped steel channels with holes for 1/4-inch- (6-mm-) diameter bolts not more than 12 inches (300 mm) o.c.
  3. Horizontal Panel Framing: 1-by-1/2-by-1/8-inch (25-by-13-by-3.2-mm) cold-rolled steel channels.
  4. Horizontal Panel Stiffeners: 1-by-1/2-by-1/8-inch (25-by-13-by-3.2-mm) cold-rolled steel channel tenoned to side frames with wire mesh woven through center stiffening bar(s).
  5. Top Capping Bars: 2-1/4-by-1-inch (57-by-25-mm) cold-rolled steel channels.
  6. Posts for 90-Degree Corners: 1-1/4-by-1-1/4-by-1/8-inch (32-by-32-by-3.2-mm), 12-gauge-steel angles with holes for 1/4-inch- (6-mm-) diameter bolts aligning with bolt holes in vertical framing; with floor anchor clips.

Retain "Posts for Other-Than-90-Degree Corners" or "Adjustable Corner Posts" Paragraph below if other-than-90-degree corners are required.

  1. Posts for Other-Than-90-Degree Corners: Tubing with holes for 1/4-inch- (6-mm-) diameter bolts aligning with bolt holes in vertical framing; with floor anchor clips.
  2. Adjustable Corner Posts: Two 1-1/4-by-5/8-by-0.080-inch (32-by-16-by-2.0-mm) cold-rolled, C-shaped steel channels connected by steel hinges at 36 inches (900 mm) o.c., with holes for 1/4-inch- (6-mm-) diameter bolts aligning with bolt holes in vertical framing.
  3. Line Posts: 3-inch-by-4.1-lb (76-mm-by-1.9-kg) steel channels; with 5/16-inch (7.9-mm) steel base plates.
  4. Three-Way Intersection: Three panel frames anchored with three-way clips and three-way shoes.
  5. Four-Way Intersection: Four panel frames anchored with four-way clips.
  6. Floor Shoes: Aluminum, 2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm) high, with set screws for leveling adjustment.
  7. Swinging Doors: Fabricated from same mesh as partitions, with framing fabricated from [1-1/4-by-1/2-by-1/8-inch (32-by-13-by-3.2-mm), 12-gauge][1-1/4-by-5/8-by-0.080-inch (32-by-16-by-2.0-mm)] cold-rolled, U-shaped steel channels, covered with 1-1/4-by-1/8-inch (32-by-3.2-mm) flat steel bar cover plates on three sides, and with 1-1/2-by 7/8- by 1/8-inch- (38- by 22- by 3.2-mm-), 12-gauge-thick angle strike bar and cover on strike jamb.
  8. Hinges: Butt type with fixed pins, 3-by-4-inch (76-by-102-mm) steel, three per door; bolted, riveted, or welded to door and jamb framing.

Retain "Padlock Lug" or "Cylinder Lock" Subparagraph below. In "Cylinder Lock" Subparagraph, recessed turn knob in fourth option is prevalent but may not comply with accessibility requirements if applicable.

  1. Padlock Lug: Mortised into door framing and enclosed with steel cover.
  2. Cylinder Lock: Mortise type with [manufacturer's standard cylinder] [cylinder specified in Section087100 "Door Hardware"] [cylinder specified in Section087111 "Door Hardware (Descriptive Specification)"]; operated by key outside and [recessed turn knob] [knob] [lever] inside.

Retain "Inactive Leaf Hardware" Subparagraph below for double doors.

  1. Inactive Leaf Hardware: Cane bolt at bottom and top.
  1. Swinging Dutch Doors: Two section door with lower section lock, upper section hasp for padlock, and shelf centered on lower section. Fabricated same as hinge door with each section having one pair of butt hinges. Fabricated from same mesh as partitions, with framing fabricated from [1-1/4-by-1/2-by-1/8-inch (32-by-13-by-3.2-mm), 12-gauge][1-1/4-by-5/8-by-0.080-inch (32-by-16-by-2.0-mm)] cold-rolled, U-shaped steel channels, covered with 1-1/4-by-1/8-inch (32-by-3.2-mm) flat steel bar cover plates on three sides, and with 1-1/2- by 7/8- by 1/8-inch- (38- by 22- by 3.2-mm-), 12-gauge-thick angle strike bar and cover on strike jamb.
  2. Hinges: Butt type with fixed pins, 3-by-4-inch (76-by-102-mm) steel, two per section of door (top and bottom); bolted, riveted, or welded to door and jamb framing.

In "Cylinder Lock" Subparagraph below, recessed turn knob in fourth option is prevalent but may not comply with accessibility requirements if applicable.

  1. Cylinder Lock: Mortise type with [manufacturer's standard cylinder] [cylinder specified in Section087100 "Door Hardware"] [cylinder specified in Section087111 "Door Hardware (Descriptive Specification)"]; operated by key outside and [recessed turn knob] [knob] [lever] inside; mounted in lower section of door.
  2. Shelf: Fabricated from 0.0747-inch- (1.9-mm-) thick, steel sheet, [12 inches (300 mm)] [18 inches (450 mm)] deep by full width of door less 4 inches (102 mm); with corners rounded and edges finished smooth; mounted on top of lower section of door and braced with manufacturer's standard brackets.
  1. Sliding Doors: Fabricated from same mesh as partitions, with framing fabricated from 1-1/2-by-3/4-by-1/8-inch (38-by-19-by-3.2-mm) steel channels, banded with 1-1/2-by-1/8-inch (38-by-3.2-mm) flat steel bar cover plates on four sides.
  2. Hardware: Two, four-wheel roller-bearing carriers, box track, and bottom guide channel for each door.

Retain "Padlock Lug" or "Cylinder Lock" Subparagraph below. In "Cylinder Lock" Subparagraph, recessed turn knob in fourth option is prevalent but may not comply with accessibility requirements if applicable.

  1. Padlock Lug: Mortised into door framing and enclosed with steel cover.
  2. Cylinder Lock: Mortise type with [manufacturer's standard cylinder] [cylinder specified in Section087100 "Door Hardware"] [cylinder specified in Section087111 "Door Hardware (Descriptive Specification)"]; operated by key outside and [recessed turn knob] [knob] [lever] inside.
  1. Vertically Sliding Service Windows: Fabricated from same mesh as panels and equipped with a spring catch on each jamb to lock window in open position and a padlock lug to lock window in closed position. Include opening frame in partition fabricated from 1-by-1-by-1/8-inch (25-by-25-by-3.2-mm), 12-gauge, steel box channels.
  2. Size: [24 inches wide by 15 inches high (600 mm wide by 381 mm high)] [As indicated] <Insert dimensions>.
  3. Shelf: Fabricated from 0.0747-inch- (1.9-mm-) thick, steel sheet; with corners rounded and edges finished smooth; braced with manufacturer's standard brackets.

2.5HEAVY-DUTY WIRE MESH PARTITIONS

Retain "Mesh" Paragraph below or revise to specify a different wire diameter or pattern.Below is industry standard for heavy-duty wire mesh.

  1. Mesh: 0.192-inch- (4.9-mm-) diameter, intermediate-crimp steel wire woven into 2-inch (50-mm) diamond mesh.
  2. Vertical and Horizontal Panel Framing: 1-1/2-by-3/4-by-1/8-inch (38-by-19-by-3.2-mm) cold-rolled steel channels; with holes for 7/16-inch- (11-mm-) diameter bolts not more than 18 inches (457 mm) o.c.
  3. Horizontal Panel Stiffeners: One cold-rolled steel channel tenoned to side frames, 1-1/2 by 3/4 by 1/8 inch (38 by 22 by 3.2 mm), 12gauge,with wires woven through center stiffening bar(s).
  4. Vertical Panel Stiffeners: 2-1/2- by 5/16-inch- (63.5- by 7.9-mm-)thick, hot-rolled flat bar.
  5. Top Capping Bars: 3-inch by-4.1-lb(76-mm by- 1.9-kg) steel channels.

Option in "Posts for 90-Degree Corners" Paragraph below allows use of an alternative material that is standard with several manufacturers.

  1. Posts for 90-Degree Corners: 1-3/4-by-1-3/4-by-1/8-inch (44-by-44-by-3.2-mm), 12-gauge, steel angles, with holes for 7/16-inch- (11-mm-) diameter bolts aligning with bolt holes in partitions.

Retain "Posts for Other-Than-90-Degree Corners" or "Adjustable Corner Posts" Paragraph below if other-than-90-degree corners are required.

  1. Posts for Other-Than-90-Degree Corners: 2-inch- (50-mm) OD by 1/8-inch (3.2-mm)steel square tube, with holes for 7/16-inch- (11-mm-) diameter bolts aligning with bolt holes in vertical framing; with 1/4-inch (6.4-mm) steel base plates.
  2. Adjustable Corner Posts: Two 1-1/2-by-3/4-by-1/8-inch (38-by-19-by-3.2-mm) cold-rolled, steel channels at 36 inches (900 mm) o.c. attached to posts; with 1/4-inch- (6-mm-) diameter bolt holes aligning with bolt holes in vertical framing; with 1/4-inch (6.4-mm) steel base plates.
  3. Line Posts: 3-inch-by-4.1-lb (76-mm-by-1.9-kg) or 3-1/2-by-1-1/4-by-1/8-inch (89-by-32-by-3.2-mm) steel channels; with 1/4-inch (6.4-mm) steel base plates.
