PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1  RELATED DOCUMENTS

Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.

1.2  SUMMARY

Resilient sheet flooring is usually specified for seamless installation. Retain "Welded-Seam Samples" Paragraph below for heat-welded seams or chemically bonded seams.

Welded-Seam Samples: For seamless-installation technique indicated and for each resilient sheet flooring product, color, and pattern required; with seam running lengthwise and in center of [6-by-9-inch (150-by-230-mm)] <Insert dimensions> Sample applied to a rigid backing and prepared by Installer for this Project.

1.4  INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Coordinate "Qualification Data" Paragraph below with qualification requirements in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" and as may be supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

  1. Qualification Data: For Installer.

1.5  CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Maintenance Data: For each type of resilient sheet flooring to include in maintenance manuals.

1.6  MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.

Revise "Resilient Sheet Flooring" Subparagraph below to suit Project.

  1. Resilient Sheet Flooring: Furnish not less than [10 linear feet (3 linearm)] <Insert dimension> for every [500 linear feet (150 linearm)] <Insert dimension> or fraction thereof, in roll form and in full roll width for each type, color, and pattern of flooring installed.

1.7  QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Installer Qualifications: A qualified installer who employs workers for this Project who are competent in techniques required by manufacturer for resilient sheet flooring installation and seaming method indicated.

Not all manufacturers train or certify installers. Before retaining subparagraph below, verify availability with manufacturers; retain with "Qualification Data" Paragraph in "Informational Submittals" Article.

  1. Engage an installer who employs workers for this Project who are trained or certified by resilient sheet flooring manufacturer for installation techniques required.
  2. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards for materials and execution.
  3. Build mockups for resilient sheet flooring including[resilient base and] accessories.
  4. Size: Minimum 100 sq. ft. (9.3 sq.m) for each type, color and pattern [in locations indicated] [in locations directed by Architect] <Insert locations>.
  5. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing.

Retain subparagraph below if the intention is to make an exception to the default requirement in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" for demolishing and removing mockups.

  1. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.

1.8  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Store resilient sheet flooring and installation materials in dry spaces protected from the weather, with ambient temperatures maintained within range recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 50 degF (10 degC) or more than 90 degF (32 degC). Store rolls upright.

1.9  FIELD CONDITIONS

  1. HVAC system should be operational and running for a minimum of seven days prior to resilient sheet installation and remain running after resilient sheet installation.
  2. Maintain ambient temperatures within range recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 65 degF (18 degC) or more than 85 degF (29 degC) , in spaces to receive resilient sheet flooring during the following time periods:
  3. 48 hours before installation.
  4. During installation.
  5. Permanently after installation.
  6. Close spaces to traffic during resilient sheet flooring installation.
  7. Close spaces to traffic, all heavy rolling loads, and point loads for 48 to 72 hours after resilient sheet flooring installation.
  8. Install resilient sheet flooring after other finishing operations, including painting, have been completed.

1.10  WARRANTY

  1. Special Warranty for Resilient Sheet: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace defective material within specified warranty period.
  2. Warranty does not include Installer's workmanship.
  3. Resilient sheet must be installed and maintained according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  4. Warranty Period:
  5. Manufacturing Defects Warranty: 10 years.
  6. Limited Commercial Wear Warranty: 10 years.

Underbed Warranty requires installation with Shaw4100 or S150 adhesive.

  1. Underbed Warranty: 10 years.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Manufacturers and products listed in SpecAgent and MasterWorks Paragraph Builder are neither recommended nor endorsed by the AIA or ARCOM. Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. For definitions of terms and requirements for Contractor's product selection, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1  PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain "Fire-Test-Response Characteristics" Paragraph below if fire-test-response testing is required by authorities having jurisdiction. In most building codes, resilient flooring is exempt from fire-test-response requirements. See "Fire-Test-Response Characteristics" Article in the Evaluations for additional information.

  1. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: For resilient sheet flooring, as determined by testing identical products according to ASTME648 or NFPA253 by a qualified testing agency.
  2. Critical Radiant Flux Classification: ClassI, not less than 0.45W/sq. cm.

Paragraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.3.

  1. Flooring products shall comply with the requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

2.2  HOMOGENEOUS VINYL SHEET FLOORING WITH REINFORCED BACKING <Insert drawing designation

Copy this article and re-edit for each vinyl sheet flooring product with backing.

Insert drawing designation. Use these designations on Drawings to identify each product.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Shaw Contract Group; 0001VBiolife or comparable product by one of the following:
  2. Insert manufacturer's name>.
  3. Construction: Homogeneous Plus.
  4. Product Standard: ASTMF1303-04.
  5. Type (Binder Content): TypeII, GradeI, minimum binder content of 34 percent.
  6. Overall Thickness: 0.090 inch (2.3 mm).
  7. Interlayer Material: None.
  8. Backing Class: Non-foamed backing, ClassB.
  9. Wearing Surface: ExoGuard™, quartz-enhanced urethane.
  10. Sheet Width: 6 feet (1.8m).
  11. Standard Roll Length: 20 yards (18.29m).

Retain "Seamless-Installation Method" Paragraph below for seamless installation. Generally, manufacturers prefer the appearance and performance of seamless installations produced using heat-welded seams. See "General Comments" Article in the Evaluations for a discussion of seamless installation.

2.4  INSTALLATION MATERIALS

  1. Trowelable Leveling and Patching Compounds: Latex-modified, portland cement based or blended hydraulic-cement-based formulation provided or approved by resilient sheet flooring manufacturer for applications indicated.
  2. Adhesives: Water-resistant type recommended by flooring manufacturer to suit resilient sheet flooring and substrate conditions indicated.

Retain one or both of first two subparagraphs below.

  1. Trowelable Adhesive: Shaw4100 or available equivalent where slab moisture does not exceed 90 percent per ASTMF2170.
  2. Spray Adhesive: ShawS150 or available equivalent where slab moisture does not exceed 90 percent per ASTMF2170.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes.

  1. Adhesives shall have a VOC content of 50g/L or less.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.1.

  1. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."
  2. Seamless-Installation Accessories:
  3. Heat-Welding Bead: Manufacturer's solid-strand product for heat-welding seams.
  4. Color: [As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range to contrast with flooring] [Match flooring] <Insert color>.
  5. Chemical-Bonding Compound: Manufacturer's product for chemically bonding seams.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes. VOC content limit is that for PVC welding compounds.
