PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1RELATED DOCUMENTS

Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.

1.2SUMMARY

1.3COORDINATION

Retain first option in "Recesses" Paragraph below for recessed, floor-mounted speed-control unitsincluding Boon Edam's "BoonAssistTQ" revolving doors; retain other options as required or revise to suit Project.Boon Edam also provides a surface-mounted pivot bearing for applications where overhead speed control, "BoonAssistTQ," or other power-operated drive systems are used.

  1. Recesses: Coordinate size and location of recesses in floor construction for [recessed, floor-mounted speed-control units] [foot grilles] [and] [recessed mats] including anchorages for frames and supports. Furnish setting drawings, templates, and directions for installing anchorages that are to be embedded into concrete. Deliver these items to Project site in time for installation.

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for revolving door entrances.
  3. Shop Drawings: For revolving door entrances.
  4. Include plans, elevations, sections, and attachment details.
  5. Indicate enclosures, speed-control units, and other components not in manufacturer's product data.
  6. Include diagrams for power, signal, and control wiring.
  7. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color and texture specified.
  8. Finishes: For each type of exposed finish required, prepared on Samples of not less than 3 by 5 inches (76 by 127 mm).
  9. Glass Samples: For each type of glass; 12 inches (300 mm) square.

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Coordinate "Qualification Data" Paragraph below with qualification requirements in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" and as supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

  1. Qualification Data: For manufacturer and Installer.
  2. Product Test Reports: For each type of revolving door entrance, for tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency.
  3. Sample Warranty: For manufacturer's warranties.

1.6CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Operation and Maintenance Data: For revolving door entrances to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals.

1.7QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer Qualifications: A company specializing in supplying revolving doors.
  2. Installer Qualifications: Installer to provide factory-trained supervisor during door installation.

1.8DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Deliver revolving door entrance glass, decorative metalwork, and other exposed elements in framed wooden crates with protective wrapping and with parts secured to minimize shifting or damage from handling. Protect finishes and glass with adhesive, protective wrapping (scrim).
  2. Protect finish surfaces from damage during handling and installation.

1.9WARRANTY

When warranties are required, verify with Owner's counsel that special warranties stated in this article are not less than remedies available to Owner under prevailing local laws.

  1. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair component finishes of revolving door entrances that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

Boon Edam warranties its products against defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12 months from date of product shipment. This warranty excludes glass breakage, normal wear on finishes, or damage that occurs due to abuse, misuse, or acts of God.

Retain "Warranty Period for Finishes" Subparagraph below forKynar® or equal architectural coatings. Ten years is standard. Twenty years is optional and may require additional paperwork.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. For definitions of terms and requirements for Contractor's product selection, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

ANSI/BHMAA156.27 addresses manual revolving doors in Section 4. Boon Edam's"TQA" automatic revolving doors are addressed in Section5; "Tournex" automatic revolving doors, in Section6; and "Duotour" two-wing automatic revolving doors, in Section7.

  1. Revolving Door Entrance Standard: ANSI/BHMAA156.27:

Revise "Air Infiltration" Paragraph below as required to suit Project. ASTME283 requires testing at a static-air-pressure difference of 1.57 lbf/sq. ft. (75 Pa) unless otherwise indicated, which is equivalent to a 25-mph (40-km/h) wind.

  1. Air Infiltration: Maximum air leakage of 1.25 cfm/sq. ft. (6.4 L/sx sq.m) of wing area when tested according to ASTME283 at a minimum static-air-pressure difference of 1.57 lbf/sq. ft. (75 Pa).
  2. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes acting on glass framing members and glazing components.

Differential values in "Temperature Change" Subparagraph below (for aluminum in particular) are suitable for most of the U.S.

  1. Temperature Change: 120 degF (67 degC), ambient; 180 degF (100 degC), material surfaces.

Retain first option in "Regulatory Requirements" Paragraph below for revolving door entrances used as a means of egress; retain second option if revolving door entrances are not used as a means of egress and meet one or more conditions listed in the International Building Code (IBC). Verify requirements with authorities having jurisdiction.

  1. Regulatory Requirements: Wings shall be capable of collapsing into a book-fold position to provide minimum aggregate parallel width of 36 inches (914 mm) when breakaway force of no more than 130 lbf (572N) is applied within 3 inches (76 mm) of outer edges. Set maximum turning speed to comply with requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

16CFR1201 in "Safety Glass" Paragraph below exempts curved-glass enclosures for revolving door entrances from safety-glass requirements. Glass in wings must meet safety-glass requirements.

  1. Safety Glass: CategoryII materials complying with testing requirements in 16CFR1201.

Retain "Safety-Glass Labeling" Subparagraph below if required. Authorities having jurisdiction may approve use of a certificate, affidavit, or other evidence certifying compliance with safety-glass standard.

  1. Safety-Glass Labeling: Where safety-glass labeling is indicated, permanently mark glass with certification label of the SGCC, another certification agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, or the manufacturer. Label shall indicate manufacturer's name, type of glass, thickness, and safety-glass standard with which glass complies.

2.2MANUAL REVOLVING DOOR ENTRANCES

See the table at the end of the Evaluations for a list of manufacturers' products. Use table in combination with manufacturers' catalogs or product data to insert series, type, model, and designations of other characteristics.

Copy paragraph below and re-edit for each product.

Insert drawing designation for each product required. Use these designations on Drawings to identify each product.

  1. Manual Revolving Door Entrances <Insert drawing designation>: Manufacturer's standard [three-wing] [four-wing] manual revolving door entrance, complete with center shaft, speed-control unit, wings, hardware, enclosure walls, canopy, glass and glazing, and accessories.

Retain "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph and list of manufacturers below to identify a specific product or a comparable product from manufacturers listed.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Boon Edam, Inc.; [BoonAssistTQM] [BoonAssist CrystalTQ]or a comparable product by one of the following:
  2. Besam Entrance Solutions; ASSA ABLOY.
  3. Horton Automatics; a division of Overhead Door Corporation.
  4. International Revolving Door Co.
  5. Insert manufacturer'sname>.

Boon Edam's "BoonAssist"speed-control and positioning drivedoors are principally manually-operated doors. This unique drive system provides a power assist during normal manual operation where only a low-force push is needed to operate the door. Drive unit provides approximately half the force to turn doorset and a positioning feature turns doorset to the rest position when no one is pushing the door. Drive system also functions as a speed-limiting device and preventsthe door from speeding up during manual operation

  1. Speed-Control and Positioning Drive: Power-assist drive system reduces force needed to operate doorset, and prevents door from speeding up.

Retain one of two options in "Location" Subparagraph below. Verify availability with manufacturers.

Retain first option for "BoonAssistTQM" or "BoonAssist CrystalTQ." Retain second option only for "BoonAssistTQM."

Retain "Stile-and-Rail Wings" Subparagraph below for "BoonAssistTQM," or "All-Glass Wings" Subparagraph for "BoonAssist CrystalTQ."

  1. Stile-and-Rail Wings: Manufacturer's standard with 1-3/4-inch- (45-mm-) thick, tubular stile-and-rail members.

Not all manufacturers offer tinted glass for wings; verify availability.

According to ASTMC1036, glass thickness in "Thickness" Subparagraph below corresponds to 1/4 inch.

Not all manufacturers offer tinted glass for wings; verify availability.

  1. Locks:
  2. Manual Deadbolt Locks: Manufacturer's standard deadbolt locks to receive cylinders; minimum of two for each revolving door entrance.

1)Cylinders: Comply with requirements in Section087100 "Door Hardware."

2)Mounting: Surface applied.

3)Location: Extend bolt from [bottom of wing into floor] [top of wing into ceiling] [bottom of wing into base of wall enclosure].

  1. Electric Locks:

1)Remote Locking: Automatically locks revolving door system in any position with push-button activation. Activation device typically mounted at security desk or GSOC (device provided by security contractor). Primarily used to lock down the door in case of emergency or security threat. Revolving door shall be visible to security staff when using this feature.

2)Timed Locking: Automatically locks revolving door system in normal rest position. Door control shall be tied into building access-control system. Door shall be provided with anti-entrapment feature to ensure that users can exit the door after remote locking system has been activated. When presence is detected during lockdown cycle, door will remain free-spinning and recycle before locks fully engage.

a)After-Hours Card Access: Provide input for card activation of revolving door entry, or exit, as defined by facility manager.

  1. Enclosure Walls: Manufacturer's standard width,1-3/16-inch- (30-mm-) thick tubular framing members.

Retain oneoption in "Configuration" Subparagraph below. If retaining second option below, ensure that revolving door is mounted half inside/half outside the building, also called a "midpost connection."See Drawings. If revolving door is situated inside a vestibule or mounted to the building interior, do not retain second option.

  1. Configuration: [Curved] [Curved with night-locking doors].

Retain one of two "Glass" subparagraphs below. Insert insulated glass if required for segmented enclosure walls.

  1. Glass: [Clear] [Tinted] [Low iron], fully tempered float glass.

According to ASTMC1036, options for glass thickness in "Thickness" Subparagraph below correspond to 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch, respectively.

  1. Canopy: Manufacturer's standard ceiling, fascia,[roof, dustcover,] and framing with size, layout, materials, and exposed finishes matching enclosure walls unless otherwise indicated.
  2. Metal Canopy:

1)Fascia: Canopy fascia shall consist of four [4-inch (102-mm)][6-inch (152-mm)][12-inch (305-mm)] one-piece, extruded-aluminum sections.

2)Metal Ceiling: Fabricate ceiling of minimum 0.06-inch- (1.6-mm-) thick,reinforced,formed aluminum sheet in a pie-shaped configuration. Each section must be secured in position and removable only by authorized service personnel.

  1. Glass Ceiling: [Clear] [Tinted] [Low-iron],tempered laminated [framed-] [frameless-]glass ceiling with two plies of heat-strengthened or tempered glass separated by an interlayer.

1)Thickness: [11/16-inch- (17.5-mm-)]Insert dimensionthick,clear tempered/laminated safety glass complying with ANSIZ97.1.

Retain "Tint Color" Subparagraph below for tinted glass.

Retain "Ceiling Lights" Subparagraph below for revolving doors with metal canopies only.Ceiling lights should not be specified for glass ceilings.

  1. Ceiling Lights: Manufacturer's standard, recessed light fixtures within the ceiling of the revolving door entrance enclosure.Provide [two][four] 12-V, 20-W,halogen lamps, 4-3/4-inch- (121-mm-)diameter lights, recessed into ceiling. (120- to 230-Vac power service required for above by others.)

Retain "Canopy Dustcover" Subparagraph below if required; revise to suit Project.Select a standard HDPE dust cover for revolving door installations within building interior or vestibule, where door will not be exposed to outside elements. Exception: Where visible from above, select dust-cover finish to match door framing.

Retain "Canopy Dustcover" Subparagraph below when canopy dustcover is exposed or partially exposed to outside elements.Retain first option for cladding of HDPE cover. Retain second option for weatherproofing of HDPE cover.

  1. Canopy Dustcover: Manufacturer's standard construction,fabricated from black, 7/16-inch- (11-mm-) thick,HDPE material[clad with 0.06-inch-(1/6-mm-)thick, aluminum sheetwith finish matching enclosure wall][covered with a rubber membrane and trimmed with a "T" ring and scuppers]placed on top of canopy.
  1. Materials: [Extruded aluminum] [Stainless steel-clad, extruded aluminum] [Copper-alloy-clad, extruded aluminum].
  2. Main Extrusions and Tubing: ASTMB221, Alloy6063-T6, commercial-grade aluminum extrusions. Minimum wall thickness of 0.125 inch (3.2 mm).
  3. Cladding: Minimum 0.04 inch (1.0 mm) thick.
  4. Fabrication: Fabricate revolving door entrance components to designs, sizes, thicknesses, and configurations indicated with profiles that are sharp, straight, and free of defects or deformations. Accurately fit joints with ends coped or mitered to produce hairline joints free of burrs and distortion. Prefit all hardware at the factory. Provide anchorage and alignment brackets for concealed support of assembly from the building structure.
  5. Wings: Factory fabricated and assembled in profiles indicated. Reinforce as required to support imposed loads and for installing hardware.
  6. Glaze wings at the factory. Comply with glazing requirements specified in this Section and in Section088000 "Glazing." Provide minimum clearances for thickness and type of glass indicated according to GANA's "Glazing Manual."
  7. Provide sliding weather stripping, mortised into stiles and rails of wings, to be adjustable and replaceable without dismantling wings.

Retain "Mechanically Joined Construction" or "Mechanically Joined Clad Construction" Subparagraph below; revise to suit Project and to match manufacturers' products.
