1.3ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for expansion joint cover assemblies.
  3. Shop Drawings: For each expansion joint cover assembly.
  4. Include plans, elevations, sections, details, splices, block-out requirement, attachments to other work, and line diagrams showing entire route of each expansion joint.

Retain "Samples" Paragraph below for single-stage Samples, with a subordinate list if applicable. Retain "Samples for Initial Selection" and "Samples for Verification" paragraphs for two-stage Samples.

  1. Samples: For each exposed expansion joint cover assembly and for each color and texture specified, full width by 6 inches (150 mm) long in size.
  2. Samples for Initial Selection: For each type of exposed finish.
  3. Include manufacturer's color charts showing the full range of colors and finishes available for each exposed metal and elastomeric seal material.
  4. Samples for Verification: For each type of expansion joint cover assembly, full width by 6 inches (150 mm) long in size.

Retain "Expansion Joint Cover Assembly Schedule" Paragraph below for large and complex projects or projects with multiple expansion joint cover assemblies.

1.4INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Test Reports: For each fire-resistance-rated expansion joint cover assembly, for tests performed by [manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency] [a qualified testing agency].

1.5QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Mockups: Build mockups to demonstrate aesthetic effects and to set quality standards for materials and execution.
  2. Build mockup of typical expansion joint cover assembly as shown on Drawings.
  3. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing.

Retain subparagraph below if the intention is to make an exception to the default requirement in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" for demolishing and removing mockups.

  1. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Manufacturers and products listed in SpecAgent and MasterWorks Paragraph Builder are neither recommended nor endorsed by the AIA or ARCOM. Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. For definitions of terms and requirements for Contractor's product selection, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1MANUFACTURERS

Retain "Source Limitations" Paragraph below where aesthetics is of primary concern or if fire-resistance-rated systems are required.

  1. Source Limitations: Obtain expansion control systems from single source from single manufacturer.

2.2ASSEMBLY DESCRIPTION

  1. Furnish units in longest practicable lengths to minimize field splicing.
  2. Include factory-fabricated closure materials and transition pieces, T-joints, corners, curbs, cross-connections, and other accessories as required to provide continuous expansion joint cover assemblies.

2.3PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain "Seismic Performance" Paragraph below for projects requiring seismic design. Delete paragraph if performance requirements are indicated on Drawings. Model building codes and ASCE/SEI7 establish criteria for buildings subject to earthquake motions. Coordinate requirements with structural engineer.

  1. Seismic Performance: Expansion joint cover assemblies shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to [ASCE/SEI7] <Insert requirement>.

Retain "Fire-Resistance Ratings" Paragraph below only if products specified are part of a fire-resistance-rated assembly. See the Evaluations for discussion of fire-resistance test methods.

  1. Fire-Resistance Ratings: Where indicated, provide architectural joint system and fire-barrier assemblies identical to those of systems tested according to [UL2079][or] [ASTME1966] by a qualified testing agency. Fire rating to be not less than the rating of adjacent construction.

Retain "Hose Stream Test" Subparagraph below if Project contains wall-to-wall or wall-to-soffit assemblies.

  1. Hose Stream Test: Wall-to-wall and wall-to-soffit assemblies shall be subjected to hose stream testing.

Each Project expansion joint may require multiple expansion joint cover assemblies as it traverses multiple spaces and planes; however, the design criteria for each joint typically remains the same for the entire length of the joint. Copy, revise, and insert drawing designations in "Expansion Joint Design Criteria" Paragraph below for each expansion joint on the Project; then copy, revise, and insert drawing designations for one or more corresponding expansion joint cover assemblies in "Exterior Vertical Expansion Joint Covers" Article as required.
