IN-VEHICLE SERVICE

Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S) REQUIRED

Transmission Range (TR) Sensor (MLPS) Alignment Tool / T92P-70010-AH

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Place manual control lever (7A256) in NEUTRAL.
  1. Remove engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600) and air cleaner outlet tube (9B659). Refer to Section 03-12 .
  1. Disconnect electrical connector from transmission range (TR) sensor.
  1. Remove manual control lever from transaxle.
  1. Remove two TR sensor retaining bolts.
  1. Remove transmission range (TR) sensor.


Installation

  1. Make sure manual control lever is in the NEUTRAL position.
  1. Install transmission range (TR) sensor and loosely install two retaining bolts.
  1. Align TR sensor slots using Transmission Range (TR) Sensor (MLPS) Alignment Tool T92P-70010-AH.


  1. Tighten TR sensor retaining bolts to 9-12 Nm (80-106 lb-in) and remove tool.
  1. Connect electrical harness to transmission range (TR) sensor.
  1. Install transaxle manual control lever. Tighten to 11-16 Nm (98-141 lb-in).
  1. Install air cleaner outlet tube and engine air cleaner. Refer to Section 03-12 .
  1. Connect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01 .
  1. Check for proper operation with parking brake control (2780) engaged. The engine should start only in PARK or NEUTRAL.

D5 CHECK TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR RESISTANCE

· Disconnect the TR sensor harness connector C107 at the transaxle.

· Connect the proper transmission tester TR/MLP adapter cable B (007-00127) or cable E (007-00111) (for vehicle equipped with illuminated instrument panel) to sensor and tester.

· Install appropriate overlay onto tester.

· Using procedures provided with tester, verify sensor resistance functions in all positions.

D6 CHECK PARK/NEUTRAL CIRCUITS OF SENSOR

· Using the procedures described in the tester manual check the park/neutral circuits of the sensor in all gear positions.

· Monitor the status lamp on the tester for proper indications.

Neutral / Less Than 5.0 Ohms

D7 CHECK REVERSE/BACKUP LAMP CIRCUITS OF SENSOR

· Using the procedures described in the tester manual check the reverse/backup circuits of the sensor in all gear positions.

· Monitor the status lamp on the tester for proper indications.
