A trip to some gem mines
The next meeting of the Society will be held on Wednesday, 12th January at the new time of 6.30 for 7.00pm. Douglas Garrod, Senior Education Executive of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, will give a talk on “A trip to some gem mines”, describing a field trip that Doug led, on behalf of Gem-A, to Madagascar in 2006. The group which was composed of 19 participants, from all over the world, plus leaders and guides, visited various mining operations. Some of the highlights of the experience will be explored in this talk.
The venue, St George's Bloomsbury, is located on Bloomsbury Way next door to the Bloomsbury Thistle Hotel. (WC1A 2HR), two minutes walk from the British Museum. ACCESS TO THE UPPER VESTRY HALL IS IN LITTLE RUSSELL STREET at the rear of St George's off Bury Place (see website for buses and tubes).
Afterwards Malagasy food will be served. There will be a FREE BAR from 6.30pm until the end of the meeting (before 10.30pm). Guests will be welcome. The cost, including the food, will be at the new reduced rate of £15 for members and £20 for guests. There will be a reduced charge of £9 for students (proof required please).

Note: Please do not turn up on the night without notifying me in advance, as we need to know precise numbers for the catering.
