IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT
SUMMER INSTITUTE SECOND YEAR
As a returning student, you will engage in a more advanced and deep study of art for social change. You will research a social justice issue of your choosing, write about it, render it artistically, and then practice facilitating dialogue around the opportunities and challenges the issue raises in your community. This five-week program culminates in an original ensemble performance with a heavy focus on student written monologues reflecting your chosen social justice issues and on student-generated design elements.
Dates of the Program:
o Jul 10-Aug 12, 2017: Summer Institute
o Jun 25, 2017: Student and Parent Orientation
o Jul 13, 2017: Overnight Retreat at the University of Minnesota
Locations:
o The first four weeks of classes (Jul 10 - Aug 4th) are held at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
o The final week of classes (Aug 7 - Aug 12) are held at Penumbra Theatre Company in St. Paul.
Daily Schedule:
o Classes run Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.
o There will be one overnight dorm stay at the U of M, the evening of Thu, Jul 13, 2017.
o Students must be committed to the entire program and cannot miss more than 3 full days of classes in order to participate.
Final Performances:
o Second year students will perform on the evenings of Friday, Aug 11th and Sat, Aug 12th at Penumbra Theatre Company. Aug 11th will be a private performance for Summer Institute families and friends. Aug 12th is a public ticketed performance. Tickets available at our website.
Tuition and Scholarships:
o Tuition is $400.00. Tuition includes classes, registration, and U of MN overnight.
o There is no fee for applying to Summer Institute. No form of payment is required until you have been accepted into the program.
o Once you have been accepted into the program, tuition will be due at the mandatory parent meeting on Sat, Jun 25, 2017. Payment must be submitted at that time in the form of cash, check, or credit card.
o Penumbra Theatre Company offers full or partial scholarships to students in need who meet scholarship requirements. In order to be considered for a scholarship you must complete the scholarship information at the end of your application.
Transportation and Food:
o Bus passes will be provided free of charge for students in need of transportation
o Snacks and lunches are provided on a daily basis
