SECOND COLLECTION TODAY! Please give to those who have given a lifetime. The appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be held TODAY. The annual, parish-based collection is coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO) and benefits some 32,000 aging Catholic sisters, brothers and priests in religious orders whose communities lack retirement savings. Consider a donation to those who have spent a lifetime helping others.

PLEASE NOTE! CHRISTMAS SEASON MASS SCHEDULE: The liturgical calendar gives us an interesting gift this year as the Fourth Sunday of Advent is celebrated on December 24, and the Vigil Masses for Christmas are also celebrated that day. We get to go to Mass either twice in one day or back to back days! Some may ask the question: “Can I just attend Mass once that day and have it fulfill my obligation to celebrate both?” The answer is no, since each Mass celebrates something different with its own readings and prayers. At Holy Name, Mass for the Sunday obligation will be on Saturday, December 23, at 4 PM (making it a vigil Mass). On December 24, Vigil Mass for the Christmas obligation will be at 5:30 PM. Then on Monday, December 25, Christmas Day, Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM.

HOLY NAME CHRISTMAS SEASON MASS SCHEDULE

Saturday, Dec. 23: Sunday Vigil Mass at 4:00 PM. This Mass covers the Sunday obligation. (No Mass at 8:30 AM that day)

Sunday, Dec. 24 - Mass at 5:30 - Christmas Vigil Mass

Monday, Dec. 25 - Mass at 9:00 AM

Saturday, Dec. 30 - Mass at 8:30 AM

Sunday, Dec. 31 - Mass at 5:30 PM, Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

Monday, Jan. 1 - Mass at 5:30 PM, Solemnity of the Mother of God (NOT day of obligation this year as it falls on Mon.)

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard “delay,” but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Please remember our priests and seminarians in your prayers. Continue to pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

REFLECTION – SECOND SUNDAY ADVENT - “As the journey of Advent continues, as we prepare to celebrate the nativity of Christ, John the Baptist's call to conversion sounds out in our communities. It is a pressing invitation to open our hearts and to welcome the Son of God Who comes among us to make divine judgement manifest. The Father, writes St. John the Evangelist, does not judge anyone, but has entrusted the power of judgement to the Son, because He is the Son of man.

And it is today, in the present, that we decide our future destiny. It is with our concrete everyday behavior in this life that we determine our eternal fate. At the end of our days on earth, at the moment of death, we will be evaluated on the basis of our likeness or otherwise to the Baby Who is about to be born in the poor grotto of Bethlehem, because He is the measure God has given humanity.

Through the Gospel John the Baptist continues to speak down the centuries to each generation. His hard clear words bring health to us, the men and women of this day in which even the experience and perception of Christmas often, unfortunately, reflects materialist attitudes. The 'voice' of the great prophet asks us to prepare the way for the coming Lord in the deserts of today, internal and external deserts, thirsting for the water of life which is Christ.” — Benedict XVI

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA! As a special Christmas gift, have a Mass celebrated by a missionary priest for your loved ones and friends. The Missions Office receives many requests for Mass stipends from missionary priests around the world. Mass stipends are a critical means of support in helping with their mission and pastoral needs. Your loved ones will receive a beautiful Christmas themed Mass card, acknowledging your gift. Go towww.columbuscatholic.orgselect Missions Office, then Request a Mass, then theMass form link. Print and mail the formwith the donation to the Diocese of Columbus Missions Office,197 E. Gay St. Columbus, OH 43215. The Mass stipend is $10. Call614-228-8603 if you have questions.

PLEASE HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS - Neighborhood Services Inc. is once again preparing Christmas Food baskets to distribute to the needy of this community. This year, Holy Name has been asked to donate cans of mixed vegetables. Won’t you please help us meet our goal of 500 cans of mixed vegetables by Friday, December 15? We are thankful for the help we receive from Holy Name Parish each year. May God Bless you!

FEASTS AND CELEBRATIONS – This week take a moment and enrich your Advent by reading about Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and the Unborn. Or read about any of the other saints whose feasts we celebrate this week ie: St. John of the Cross, St. Lucy, St. Adelaide. Such reading will strengthen your faith and inspire you to live the Gospel…till he comes again!
