Pastor Position Description

Job Title: Pastor

Position Status: Full‐Time

Purpose: TheSecond Missionary Baptist Church, Junction City, KS, established in 1873,is prayerfully seeking Pastoral candidates to fill the position of a full-time Pastor.The qualified candidate should possess a minimum of fiveyears of pastoral experience and should be licensed, trained and ordained in the Baptist Ministry.The Pastor must hold a BA in Theology or Religion; and Master of Divinity from an accredited College or University or Seminary. The role of Pastor must have a clear understanding of the Baptist Doctrine and Articles of Faith as well as being an effective communicator with the ability to teach sound doctrine and to preach the gospel effectively from the Holy Bible. The Pastor shall be a leader of the Church in all of its activities and direct the spiritual welfare for the Church. The Pastor shall be an ex-officio member of all boards, committees, auxiliaries, and organizations of the Church.

Requirements and Responsibilities

Preaching/Teaching: Provide ministry through the spoken word by taking time to study. Prepare and reflect on the Word and present a relevant and engaging message. Enablelearning by using methods/materials that is appropriate to the age and situation of the learner. Provide a teaching ministry that is based on theological, educational and historical foundations.Support the preaching ministry with time for preparation/reflection on the Word, and commitment to listen for the Word’s power and it’s implementations for individuals, the church, the community and the world.The Pastor will ensure that the practices and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities. Oversee adherence to the Baptist Doctrine and Church’s Constitution and By Laws.

Church Growth: Help develop the vision for ministry to increase the membership of the church.Maintain programs and activities for enlarging the membership.

Interpreting the Faith: Communicatea clear and relevant understanding of the Bible and theology for Christian living today.

Evangelism: Having a heart to see people come to Christ.Plan and promote periods of evangelistic emphasis for the unsaved and renewal for the Christians.

Worship Preparation and Learning: Assist the congregation in designing and implementing worship experiences which express praise, thanksgiving and devotions to God.Provide by Word and presence an empathetic understanding of and concern for persons in the routine and joys as well as the crises and transition of life, giving assistance where appropriate and feasible.

Mission Minded/Nurturing Fellowship:Encourage and provide opportunities for the congregation to be informed and involved in National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and American Baptist Churches, USA mission at home and abroad. Create an atmosphere where persons feel accepted cared for and included.Motivate and support persons in discovering and using their gifts for ministry in their daily lives.Provide opportunities (a place and/or persons) for individual, couple, families and/or groups to enter a healing relationship.

Leadership:Recognize and call forth the potential of persons as leaders and provide opportunities for training and growth and ability to recognize and articulate God’s vision and assist the congregation in its implementations.Develop and implement the goals and objectives of the church.

The Pastor serves as director to ordained and lay ministers, and leadership with its mission while maintaining an efficient and an effective line of communication.Oversee the pastoral care needs of the congregation and, as necessary, share with other ordained and lay ministers in hospital visitation, home visits and extended care facilities.

Prepare and teach biblically based lessons at weekly bible studies regularly and for special events as requested. The Pastor will also delegate these responsibilities to a Minister as appropriate.

Work with and supervise deacons, church officers, and committees in performing assigned responsibilities. Provide leadership in planning, organizing and coordinating programs in discipleship and ministry. Be available for and lead in training as needed.

Create an atmosphere in which people feel accepted, included, cared for and can identify with other members.

Counsel and work with youth as well as promote and develop youth programs.

Preside over worship services, funeral services, weddings, and baby dedications, mentorship, and counseling or designate someone else to perform these functions in his absence.

Responsible for observance of the Ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism

AffiliatedwithNational Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and the American Baptist Churches, USA

Attends, support, and encourage members to attend District, State and National Congress/Convention for religious education and ideas that will enhance the church’s ministries as well as establishing new ministries.

Act as Moderator for church business meetings.

Attends Diaconate Meeting to ensure the members are effectively aligned to meet strategic goals of its mission.

Participateswith the Community Minister’s Alliance

This is a Full Time Pastoral Position.

Compensation: The Diaconate Chairman and Assistant Chairman along with assistancefrom the Trustee Chairman and Trustee Assistant will conduct annually a review of the compensation package.
