/ Welcome back to Southwest Elementary School!
This is the first of our monthly newsletters which will be mailed home at the end of every month. The classroom is coming together nicely with the help of your students and we are looking forward to Parents Night on September 15th at 6:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!
Highlights of the month:
  • Learning and practicing the rules of the classroom. On the first day of school the students and I brainstormed and decided on classroom rules that we would follow at all times.
  • The D.A.R.E. program starts on Tuesday the 13th and Officer Lonergan will be administering the activities.
  • Our art in the classroom will coincide with a special reading project we are working on. As a class we are reading Ramona Quimby, age 8 by Beverly Cleary. We are going to recreate Ramona at different times in the book by making a mural!
  • In science we are studying hurricanes due to the unfortunate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Look forward to:
  • Columbus Day on October 12th! Although we will be on break at this time, we will be studying Christopher Columbus and his adventures.
  • Independent reading at home! Each student will bring home a book from the library and will be required to write a book report.
This is going to be an amazing year! I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at Parents Night!
